Oh God, yesterday I have finished FF6 for, like, the 10th time in my life. Why this game is so fucking good? The music is perfect, the graphic is simple but creates a magnificent world. FF6 is THE final fintasy. The characters are impressive, Kefka is one of the best final boss ever seen in a RPG. I wish i can see a game this good very soon.

>> No.1320091

yeah, somebody tells me the same thing, but idk. Don't know why but for me the idea of a nice rpg is strictly linked with a simple graphic. I think FF9 is the real successor of FF6, but not good as it.

FF6 is not in my top 10 FFs. I have only one successful playthrough and had 4 playthroughs that ended shortly after

out of sheer boredom. I enjoyed 1,4 and 5 more than 6. I really didn't like Kefka, and the chemistry between most of the characters was rather lackluster. Visually, I felt it was in the ballpark of every other JRPG being released at that time.

No problem. The only patch/hack I would consider is the one that fixes Evade/MBlock; the game erroneously applies MBlock to ALL blockable attacks, while Evade is completely useless.

Thanks, got the Rev A version and applied the Evade/MBlock patch, seems like the game is pretty broken without it (although I didn't know about it when I played it 10 years ago).

Now, into more complicated territory: for those of you that have emulated it, what is the best emulator to run it? Zsnes seems to run it pretty good, but maybe I'm missing something...

Also, not a big fan of using scaling effects or something, but if any of you have found something that enhances the experience, I'm all ears.

FF6 is my favorite FF game, but that being said it's a lackluster RPG, in the sense of a game. The sprite work is solid, the music is fantastic, and I really like the story and characters, but the characters are specialized by design, and only through the espers did you have any method of customization.

Some anon in another thread mentioned it was an Opera in videogame form, which I agree with. As an RPG it's not very good, but it has very good presentation. I just wished they had kept in 5's job system, then it would have been one of the most awesome RPGs ever.

That's my complaint against FFVI. Take that as you like.

>> No.1322243

As with all games I try to put them into the context of the era. When this game came out it was one of the most complete rpg's to ever come out for a console. It was a complete package. It showed what the snes really could do at the time and it really is a marvel of a game. Other rpg's of the time also came out that had good graphics, a good plot, or any other number of benefits but few pulled them together like FFVI did.

Really the best thing you can do for retro games is to not judge them by your modern gaming experience. People have had years to play those games and build off their foundation, so of course older games are going to appear unrefined. Accept them for that they did in their era and niche.
