I'm about to start playing this game with my girlfriend, who's the kind of girl that plays through FF7 and gives Tifa her own name while renaming Cloud as whoever her current love interest is. Right now, I'm her 'Cloud'. I was wondering if Duran, who I assume is the main character, has any feelings towards any of the female protagonists or vice versa. I need to know which one of them my girlfriend should play as.

I enjoy that game but there's really one thing I really hate. You are so completely blind when leveling it's really easy to fuck yourself over. Maybe the guide book tells you the best route to take for each character but without any leveling guide you are going to spend a lot of time grinding. As for love interest I don't really remember any major ones but I tend to not really care about love interests unless it's actually part of the plot. Most of the time it's forced and handled too poorly to really give a crap.

if you don't feel like using a leveling guide just go dark/dark with everyone, that's not the best possible class but there is no dark/dark that is actually weak

To me the leveling thing is really the only problem I had. One of only a small handful of games I actually encourage to read a faq if you are going to play it. It's not a bad game in the slightest it's just annoying how badly you can screw yourself on leveling.
