Whhhhyyyy. What have I gotten myself into?

>Things are flying at you the whole time, one hit kills
>Have to maniacally be pounding the shoot button instead of being able to press it down

Should I even bother trying to beat Silver Surfer? Have any of you ever beaten Silver Surfer? I enjoy beating hard NES games, but I think that one might be TOO hard.

>> No.1312103

Buy a turbo controller (assuming that's your cart there, if not, set a turbo button on your emulator). Silver Surfer can be beaten. But certainly not by me.

i've beaten it. it's just a million tiny patterns that u have to memorize. u'll eventually get the levels down to muscle memory if u play it long enough.
not that most people want to, though

Good luck, Son.

Yep, that's my NES cartridge. I enjoy playing NES games on a console instead of emulating.

>>1312180

Nice one, anon. That's definitely an accomplishment beating this hard game.

I'll try playing it again tonight.

Yes, keep playing. The game gets easier after you realize it will let you start each section over and over again.

It's also the same every time. Learn the patterns. It's no different than R-type.

you might as well use game genie

OP here.

Just played it again. It's actually not that difficult, since you get four continues.

I'm sure with a bit of memorization I can have this game under my belt in no time.

>> No.1312428

As hard as it may be, Silver Surfer does have kickass music by Tim and Geoff Follin, though.

>> No.1312443

The game is 100% memorization. The ending itself isn't rewarding at all, but knowing that you're in the tiny minority of people who beat it is a pretty cool feeling.

>> No.1312507

I owned this game as a kid and beat it then when I was 8 or so. I never thought much about it then, but in retrospect it did take me a hell of a long time (but back then I had a hell of a lot of time to spend). Especially the after-stages with the Dracula-looking guy. And then you got to the final boss and it's the rock monster guy with 10k HP who is a total pushover. Rather anti-climactic.

This is the only NES game I've heard that sounds like a C64 rather than an NES.

this. i dont know why people make a huge deal out of this game. i also beat it as a kid. i downloaded it again once /vr/ came into being and people started talking about it and i beat the crock level and the fire level before dying.

meh. i just think that's a stupid complaint. "i had to go through all that for this lame ending?!" it's not like most of these games had much of a story. what the hell were you expecting?

>> No.1313907

>>1313882

You have to take the time period into consideration. Until the NES took flight, a majority of old-school games just played on an infinite loop wherein the high score was the prize. Once the idea of endings became a mainstay, games with ball-crushing difficulty were expected to have some sort of payoff. When they didn't, it was a disappointment. Simple, really.

>You have to take the time period into consideration.

that's exactly what i'm doing. i expected no payoff except the satisfaction of beating a ball-crushingly difficult game.

So is it confirmed that the people who keep shitposting and complaining about Youtube reviewers are also the people who watch them the most? Interesting. Figures that you would be the people who know as much as when AVGN farts.

>> No.1314260

I assume OP has never heard of the shmup genre.

The gradius games were about as hard as silver surfer but I guess AVGN didn't review those games so they don't count.

NES games are not very difficult in the first place.
Twitch games arn't really difficult until you start trying to 1cc arcade games.

Keep trying as long as it is fun to try. When the game stops being fun, it is no longer a game and you should cast it aside.
