I didn't like the original Baldur's Gate much when it first came out. I expected more Fallout like choices and the path finding was simply terrible. I think its a very good game now, though. The Original Final Fantasy.
All day, Erry day.

Alot of people argue that it sucked ass, but after watching Duane and Brando's rap video on it, My best friend and I made a vow to beat the bitch.
We beat it on a psp we "borrowed" from his cousin, and I loved it so much that I grabbed up an NES and a copy of it ( Don't worry, My collection is growing and I play alot more than just ff.) Just to play the bitch again.

Now I have an appreciation for all old RPGs like Dragonwarrior, and the like.

Honestly, when I first saw a friend play FF VI, I just thought "my god, this looks so boring. You just walk around on a big map and almost stand still while fighting the monsters". Fortunately, I grew up and decided to give it a shot myself one day, and I ended up enjoying the CRAP out of it.
Learned a lesson that day: Never bash stuff without giving it a try first. You might end up actually liking it

But Madden 94 was a really good football game considering the hardwar limitations, but the picture in picture reciever thing was confusing, and I couldn't wrap my head around how to do a running game.

I really like games like Dragon Quest III, Final Fantasy V or the original Final Fantasy way more than I used to and really have learned to appreciate games like Wizardry where you simply make a group of 4 to 6 people and simply go explore some XBOX HUGE dungeon.

I don't know why but I have developed a "less is more" mindset regarding RPGs lately... I really prefer playable characters characters simply being nothing but job-classes you give names to nowadays and really wish modern RPGs went back to simple premise of small group of adventurers with simple weapons and simple magic exploring the world with no overly complicated story-lines or ridiculous character development getting in the way of exploration/gameplay.

>> No.1313345

>>1313334
That's how I feel about it. It's like they took Super Metroid's ideas, the non-linearity, the abilities that you gradually acquire, and stuck them in the game without understanding how they are meant to come together. In Super Metroid you gain abilities so you can gradually tackle more complex rooms. In SotN the complexity of the level design is roughly the same throughout and the abilities are just glorified keys that allow you to simply skip obstacles instead of introducing a new challenge.

Same. I hated it as a kid, and up until recently. I don't love it, I'm not even sure I like it, but I did play through the entire thing. Shmups. A friend of mine had a bunch of them (Tiger Heli, Gradius, Life Force, Section Z, Gun.Smoke) on the NES, but I thought they were kind of shallow and boring compared to my favorite games like Zelda and Metroid, which gave you worlds to explore. I got into the genre because of the later bullet hell stuff, and have since gone back to play a lot of these earlier games, and now I love them.

Well, the only thing that immediately comes to mind is the first Final Fantasy. Back when my mom first got it, I was more or less thinking to myself, "What's this? This isn't Super Mario 2! Boo!" Fallout, not quite a true example though. As a kid I was extremely disappointed by it at first because I asked my dad to buy it (mistaking it for an actual PSX racing game called "Burnout", no not -that- Burnout) and the whole time he played it in front of me I was like "when do you get to ride the cars?" Cue "t-thanks dad" response when there indeed were no drivable cars in Fallout.

And dad liked Fallout enough to buy the sequel too and it finally had a car and it was almost like a dream come true, even though there was no racing. In fact, FO2 became my favorite game of all time... for some time. Still in my top 10 though. Not because of the car.

Dragon Warrior. My 15-year-old self thought it was too generic, and it wasn't nearly as interesting as Final Fantasy with its party-based gameplay. Here I am at 29 and I just bought another copy of the game a few months ago. After grinding the hero to level 30 and finishing the game, I decided to buy Dragon Warrior II and beat it as well.

I've debated getting DW3, but I don't think I'll ever play it out of the principle that I don't approve of the level of censorship found in the U.S. version. Apparently, Enix was forced to remove a gay bar from the game. I'm sure it sounds silly, but playing the game now would feel too much like I'm enabling homophobia or ignorant societal attitudes. I keeping wondering if Nintendo also would have also censored a heterosexual bar. Why can a character announce that they're straight, but not that they're gay? Why is the difference so important that it necessitates removal? I doubt there was ever any logic to NoA and its arbitrary policies.

That is a retarded reason not to play a game. Stop being retarded. In fact, I'm going to go so far as to say you're being gay. That's right, I'm using a gay as an insult! How ignorant of me, you'd better enlighten me quickly!

Also, there was never a gay bar. The censored scene in question is where a "puff-puff girl" takes you to her place but turns out to be a guy is turned into a dodgy fortune teller.
What got censored was essentially a joke at the expense of gays. I wonder if it would have offended you more if it was left in.
