This developer didn't survive past the retro generations of gaming.

What was Data East's best game?

>> No.1311247

Atomic Runner Chelnov. Hands down, no questions asked. The Genesis port is especially good, one of the few "better than arcade perfect" conversions from that era. Very original, challenging and best of all, bizarre as all hell.

Well, I've just played Crude Busters on the original JAMMA board, and it's a pretty cool game.

Data East made Donaldland, a McDonald's themed platformer/sidescroller for the Famicom. Supposedly, this game was singlehandedly responsible for popularizing McDonald's, or at least the character of Ronald McDonald, in Japan.

>> No.1313023

Probably Windjammers or Burger Time (if only because it's their biggest game), but I have a soft spot for Joe & Mac.

>> No.1313070

>Presented by Data East

>> No.1313104

Haven't played all of their games but with my experience with Data East their games are always absolute gold or a giant turd. I never played anything in the middle from them.

>> No.1313118

The only data east game I have is side pocket. It's pretty fun as far as billiard games go.

That reminds me, what the hell does Mizoguchi say for his fireball attack? TAIGABOGIGEDEA?

Also Mizoguchi is the best shotoclone. A high school delinquent who's in his late 20's due to being held back years after years.

>> No.1315021

>>1315013
I have been wondering that for awhile myself.

Also he is a shoto to a degree but he has a lot of weird nuances with his moves if you compare him to Ryu or Ken from Street Fighter, Karnov and Karnov's Revenge has one of the more original casts of characters (even if it is obviously trying to copy SF2 really hard.)

>> No.1315038

Plus Mizoguchi has the coolest voice ever. I remember years ago having this idea of editing this Mizoguchi for MUGEN, giving him all sorts of retarded moves. I only managed to do this, and lost interest in the project. Besides, I was jumping from one thing to another as opposed to working sequentially, so that hurt.

>> No.1315073

The only games I've played by them are Karate Champ, BreakThru, and Karnov, and of those BreakThru is most definitely the best.

>> No.1315180

I've played all the way through Super Burger Time many times on MAME.

>> No.1315195

A lot of Data East's games, particularly their NES titles, seem to have been developed by a company called "Sakata SAS". Were they an internal development studio?

>> No.1315215

>>1315195
I doubt it. Nowpro did the same thing for companies like Hudson, Namco, and Capcom even though they weren't related

Altron and Taito dabbled in this sort of thing too

Is Ray's "Big Potato" related in anyway to Tizoc's "Potato Beam"?

>> No.1315243

>>1315227
I always heard it as "Potato Wave". He makes such a silly voice.
Poor Tizoc. He is fucked in Garou cause of that fucking glitch (the one who makes your command throw useless).

Also, don't know how this game hasn't been mentioned yet.
Data east really pushed the limits here.

The best thing about him? Victory by Time Over has him shaking his ass and pointing at the opponent, as if he's shooting them. Loss by Time Over has him rolling on the ground and throwing a tantrum.

I could swear that Karnov's Revenge was a parody of Street Fighter. Hell, in one of the games, you get to fight Chelnov from Atomic Runner, but where the hell are the Two Crude Dudes?

Except by the based SNES soundtrack, it is way better than both Side Pocket and M. Fats for Genesis. Gameboy ver. soundtrack is nice too. But yeah, MFPL is the better snooker game for 16 bits. Also, Side Pocket 2/Minnesota Fats for Sega Saturn is superb.

I've never played Vapor Trail, but it's got some seriously Kick-Ass music to it.
