Final Fight has just always been my fav Beat-Em up when i was a kid loved the Boss's. And loved the stages they made you feel like you were advancing more and more through a city. And liked the cause even though story was more like DD thugs steal your girl and you fight to get her back. Just all and all fav beat-em up of all time. And still holds up.

Why does /vr/ never discuss Guardian Heroes?

I know as a non-AAA Saturn title it mightn't have been widely played back in the day, but it always seemed like something that made a conscious effort to improve the genre whilst looking fun as fuck.

haha no it's not. that and battle circuit are the easiest capcom beat'em ups.

i'll start w/ battle circuit. each character has something extremely overpowered
Yellow: 2 different, very easy, very damaging infinites. Can make money extremely well. Best character for 1-coining and for high score. God tier.

Blue: full screen megacrush. nuff said

Green: multi-slam hammer throw is godly. upper cut has major priority

Pink: Just excellent overall. especially her footstomping move

Silver: Weakest character bar none.

Armored Warriors: lol i'm not gonna give it away. but let me just say that if you get a certain leg part, then use the dashing attack. Repeatedly. Over and Over.

>>1291323
I can beat this game 1-coin w/ every single character (default setting. europe setting. (jpn version is MUCH easier on the default difficulty (less enemy spawns, enemies have reduced health, etc)). The only combos that impress me are infinite combos on BOSSES (that only Falcon) can do. because (1) bosses canNOT be juggled (2) falcon's infinite on bosses is very hard to do and takes high skill

anyway. character ranking

1) byakki- Simply superb. He has Everything. Reach, attack speed, attack recovery, priority, air combos, throw-cancel, pretty good specials.

2) kagetsura- He's awesome. He's not just "balanced", he's fucking awesome. You'll only recognize how good he is once you can beat the game w/ every character. Then you'll realize how important unnoticeable things like attack vertical hitbox and recovery speed after attacks are. No weaknesses whatsoever. Only MINOR gripe is the lack of the neutral throw-cancel. Not a big deal though.

3) Kurenai: Highest (and quickest) damage dealer in the game thanks to her ridiculous air combos. Her specials are also excellent (although about 25% less damaging (than other characters) against bosses). HOWEVER, she has blatant weaknesses in the worst reach (the 2 most important standing moves: jab and dash kick (shitty recovery for dash kick too)), and the worst standing combo. She can do one thing the best (quick damage) yet you have to compensate for her weaknesses. Still an Excellent character, but not as good as Byakki, and SLIGHTLY below kagetsura.

(4-tied) Falcon- he takes some getting used to. After you're able to 1-coin the game w/ the top 3 characters, you'll be like "man, falcon is garbage." But he has a hidden card up his sleeve- he's the only character able to infinite bosses (true infinites, not boss pattern loop exploits (which he can do as well)). Furthermore, he has a lot of strengths that just don't stand out until you get MUCH deeper into the game.
(cont)

>> No.1292115

>>1292092
(4-tied) Okuni- honestly, she's my Least used character. i can and have 1-coined her, but i just prefer to use the other characters. She's a great character. Doesn't really have any glaring weaknesses cept for worst jumping attacks. however, compared to Byakki or Kagetsura, she has less reach and smaller hitboxes. compared to kurenai, can't do as much damage. compared to falcon- better at killing normal enemies, but cannot infinite bosses

(last) Kongo- such a shame. he's my favorite character. He's a beast. if you get good you can string B,A,B,A in air combos even. Unbelievable damage, more than Kurenai even. However, he has two GLARING weaknesses that the other characters don't suffer from. (1) he gains ninpo Much Much slower than the others (probably because he's killing enemies too quickly). not a deal breaker. The real deal breaker is that (2) he gets critical-hit by enemies much easier. Let me explain. You know how in fighting games, you can get "meaty" hits in. There's something like that in this game too, when it comes to getting HIT. I guess due to Kongoh's huge sprite, he's more susceptible to getting hits that knock him down and do almost double damage. The other characters will just get slashed and stay standing (and take much less damage). If only this retarded fucking feature(?), or bug(?), or oversight(?) weren't in the game, i'd rank him behind kurenai. Well, he has other weaknesses too: (1) shitty regular throw. (2) A-button special only grabs one enemy (3) slow movement. etc. But the fact that he sometimes gets double-damage dealt to him is fucking retarded, especially considering he's the big, slow character who SHOULD have higher health. Speaking of which: beat'em ups where PC's have variable health bars and defense/stamina: (off the top of my head)

King of Dragons: funnily enough, wizard has the best defense (not health though)
Dungeons & Dragons (both games)
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs: Mess takes Less damage

(cont)

>> No.1292121

>>1292115
as you can see. Not many beat'em ups ACTUALLY compensate the "Big" characters for being (1) slower and (2) being a bigger target, especially games like AvsP or Sengoku3 where the small and agile characters not only are faster and smaller (which is an advantage), but can oftentimes deal greater damage. The only beat'em ups that properly compensate the "big and slow dudes" are:

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs: Mess takes less damage. he does MORE damage. Overall, he's an Awesome character that has even more potential than "dropkicks" Mustapha.

Streets of Rage 2 Max: huuuuuge fucking damage. Awesome character overall.

Ninja Warriors Again: Ninja has great crowd control, high damage, and many things to compensate for his slower speed and bigger hitbox.

Guardians (denjin makai II): the big characters in this game are fucking beasts

I didn't know about routechanging because of bad emulation until I saw some delicious combo demos on youtube. The alt routes are usually easier and provide more score too, though i'm better at the targetshooting on the highway than after FAG THE ERSATZMAN.

Not really. The only thing difference between the "Cody" and Guy versions of Final Fight besides the roster were the enemy placement and the addition of new power-ups and a revamped difficulty settings on the option screen. Double Dragon Advance is a great Double Dragon game, maybe the best but I still prefer Super. The slow and deliberate gameplay, the great sound effects like the slapping noise of the punches or the slicing effects for swords and the general weightiness every thing has. I love that thud every character makes when they hit the ground. I love the Chinatown level with the dojo that martial arts practice tool that whips back and forth when you hit it. The original arcade game never had much of a post-apocalyptic feel to me. I always felt the backstory of the game was written after the game was made, much like everything else made in the 80s.

Yeah, but the parrying is limited compared to the Super ,since your character automatically throws an enemy when he successfully grabs a punch.

ooohh batman returns is AWESOME.

it's regretful that every other level is that side-scrolling shooting crap though..

Why must Konami mess w/ these games like that? Contra 3- the topdown stages are a chore.

also, some of the bosses do ridiculous damage in batman returns. good thing you can infinite most of them

I've never paid too much attention to Crisis Beat until last week. It's a short but sweet beat'm up for PS1, and it's interesting to see how the story is divided between Eiji - JJ / Keneth - Feisu.

best game for coop? Me and my friend dig coop side scrollers. Just beat the warriors, which is the king of 3d brawlers

HEY, YOU GUYS MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME.

Back in the day in an arcade, I played a beat em up and I think the gimmick was that the characters could turn into animal men. The character I played turned into a panther man.

Ring any bells?

Bumping with some Undercover Cops, an awesome beat-'em-up by IREM. I believe some of the same people also work on Gun Force and In the Hunt. The only console version is unfortunately an SFC one that is ridiculously rare and single player only.

cool game. you GOTTA play the jap version. It's nothing about being a weeaboo or anything.

the japanese version simply has twice the amount of moves you can do.

world version- regular combo. jump kick. neutral jump kick. megacrash. 1-2 types of throws, dash attack

jap version- in addition to the above, combo into 2-3 types of ending moves. dashing jump kick. super move, many more throws
