I was always annoyed that both were timed, that torch runs out pretty damned fast when you're just exploring, and yet you can just restart and get a extra few moves when it does.

Well, a lot of horror games from that era were never translated. You can try Echo Night, the first game was localized.

Sweet Home, of course. That game is seriously scary and inspired plenty of other horror games that followed.

First horror-themed RPG too, I believe.

I have played it many times, finding all the shit feels very rewarding, and the last boss really makes it a point to damage you as hard as possible so you should get it all. However the ending is very disappointing... it's literally the only bad thing about it.

>>1280432
>System Shock 2
It's definitely spooky but I tried playing it recently and just got disinterested, mainly due to how bad the animations are, and how poorly thought out the RPG elements make it pretty much impossible to progress well into the game without upgrading the "correct" skills, the game doesn't really reward you for playing with certain skills in mind.

Fuck. Was about to post it. But yeah, OP. If you're looking for a good story without the pointless jumpscares and an atmosphere like no other, then try I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. The tone is pretty grim, and it's actually quite fun for a point and click.

>> No.1280916

>>1280912
eh, I personally found I Have No Mouth to not really live up to all of the hype. It was a decent adventure game with a somewhat dark story, but it felt so edgy for the sake of edgy and Ellison's v/o is so hammy it's distracting.

I'm gonna say the actual game feels nothing like this. Everytime I see someone using the term "edgy" I just assume they're using it just to sound like a superlative dickhole.

That would be Marine Philt. The game on that pic is Dead of the Brain, it's mostly a zombie adventure game with some basic survival parts, kinda like a proto TWD. It's just that towards the end a crazy mecha appears, that picture is one of the last scenes of the game.
