There's pretty much just Boot Hill and that other .wad, really, they're alright for their day, but their age also shows.

Someone should make a real Western .wad, with proper stuff in it. For instance, I'd love a percussion cap revolver in Doom. Or hell, just an old Single Action Army done right.

Either way, Project MSX adds both new weapons and enemies, it's got some elements of newer games while keeping the same classic gameplay, and ramping it up to Sanic speeds.

Psychic is just new weapons, the gimmick with this one is that enemies you defeat drop tokens which can be used to buy psychic powers, powerups, and new weapons, along with upgrades for those weapons.

Crossfire adds perks and experience based leveling, all new weapons and enemies, and ramped up, faster gameplay.

If you guys need a break from Doom, just so know the Steam version of Duke Nukem 3D now supports workshop. You can easily play usermaps with it now.

I've uploaded the 2 single player maps I've worked on if you guys are interested, they're called Galbadia and Sin Center. Pic related.

Meanwhile I'm still playing Back To Saturn X episode 1 for Doom2 and it still kicks ass on every single aspect.

ZDoom Wars is an RTS-esque mod I worked on that lets you command the enemy factions of each idtech1 game against each other.
People made a whole bunch of custom factions for it, and oftentimes would simply refuse to play the newer versions (with changelogs reaching into the hundreds of entries, fixing crashes, exploits, and other vital shit) just because the Duke or Caleb hadn't been updated.

I just can't believe Samsara didn't even get a mention. I mean, I realized there was a good chance it wasn't going to win because of when work on it started, but I have no idea how they're even considering giving it to AOW2 or SF when both of those are older than Samsara and not anywhere near as good. I mean I could see something not as good but released this year winning because of how awards are given, but if they're going back to pick an older mod and completely skipping over Samsara it just makes absolutely no sense.

And fractal doom, while I didn't really expect it to win, doesn't get a mention while "The Bird" does? At this point doom modding is old as shit and the community is relatively small, so it's pretty worthless to send a C&D now. Yeah I think BFG's in slaughtermaps CAN be overused sometimes, but I mean it's a BFG what can you do?

Custom weapons can be cool sometimes, I remember trying out Russian Overkill in Sunder and man that was cathartic to just blast so many things so easily, or trying out superweapons from Realm667 (nuclear missile launcher) but many mappers dont really like using custom weapons too much.

I think there is a line between a good slaughtermap where you have the BFG out all the time - and where it's just stupid mindless hold down the trigger BFGing, maybe because it's too easy, like you're not still having to worry about where the monsters are, what the terrain is like around you or having to dodge incoming projectiles.

I'd like to know a better yardstick of that though.

It depends, Sunder has areas where it's assumed you're taking advantage of monster infighting and it's a means of having the player control his resources.

But here’s a harsh truth.

Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight is inherently better than any of your book ideas because it actually exists and people read it.
An EZBoard Naruto RP is better than your homebrew modern-fantasy campaign idea because it actually exists and people play it.
Doomguy’s Warzone 2000 is better than your super-fantastic Devil May Cry-esque class mod featuring magic, swords, and guns because it actually exists and people play it.
Super Mario Bros. Z is better than your super cool crossover fighting flash because it actually exists and people watch it.

Anyone can come up with a good idea, the question is if they can be executed well. Because if they can’t be executed, they’re just fleeting “would be cool” thoughts that will just be gas in the wind.

So how do you execute them? By working on them. If you have an idea, I challenge you today to make a short design document detailing how it would work. If you already have a design document, find or make some sprites. If you need a map, make a short room in a map.

It will be painful.
You will have plenty more ideas you will want to do. You will want to work on them instead. This idea will get cold and stale. You’ll hit walls you don’t know how to overcome. You will get depressed because you don’t know if it will be worth the pain in the end. I liked anniversary, I thought it was cool seeing the first game with modern graphics, and the remastered music and sound effects were great. As for Halo 4, I did like the story, and how it focused more on the Chief and Cortana on an emotional level.

You would want something more modern today though and by more modern I mean more so graphics wise not "modern". Use Painkiller and Serious Sam as guidelines. Except perhaps less slaughtermappy like those two are, you can still have your dingy corridors and such.

To reiterate, what you could do is to run a temporary .wad host for sharing work on /vr/, as you focus on having slots for having say, 20-30 .wad's on your server at a time, along with a comment/explanation (and maybe an author/e-mail field), when someone uploads a new .wad, the oldest .wad on the list gets pruned, just like an image board.

Just a suggestion, as we already have /vr/ for discussion of these games.

download the weapon wad demo. Charge works the same way as the BFG9000 in doom3 or doom 2.5. except instead of releasing it loops and once released jumps into spawn projectile. I assume in the loop it just spawns partial effect

Been so long since i made mods, I tired so hard o mimic the the needler in decor only. What i did or try to do is have damage state enemy..

if enemy has more than 3 hits of specific damage in that short time it would go to explode. But i guess i couldn't figure out what was wrong. Never went to explosion. I think i tried to make a inventory for the monster and put 1 point per shard every 3 seconds it resets? or something.

Hopefully someone can do it.
