Hey /vr/ I want to start collecting some PS1 games since I only had Nintendo back then

There any point in buying a PS1 or should I just go with a PS2 seeing how it is backwards compatible.

buy a ps3/4 and emulate ps1/2 games

Yeah, PS2. You can find them relatively cheap, and PS2 has great games too.

I'm not interested in modern consoles and a PS2 doesnt cost a thing

Guess the Slim is the one to go for?
There any different slim models?

get a fatty, built in cooling and no annoying ass lids that wont shut

I read that most used fatties are likely to have worn out drives duo to usage as movie players.

Does the Slim have cooling problems?

Fat PS2 is one of the most failure prone consoles ever made. Only the xbox 360 has it beat. If you don't want the nostalgia of the glorious original ps2 box, definitely get a slim.

This, I had an early PS2. Disc read errors and slow loading times everywhere.

It wasn't just movies that killed it either. GTA 3 streamed from the disc nonstop. I swear it killed my first ps2. Eventually the PS2 itself got revenge and scratched the GTA disc.

Anyway, this isn't /vr/ material. But for further info, no a slim ps2 won't overheat. And it sure as hell won't overheat when playing PS1 games. There are a handful of PS1 games that aren't fully compatible, but nothing major. Of mine, Mortal Kombat Trilogy often freezes, and FFV covers the screen in garbled pixels when you try to save. But FFV for PS1 sucks anyway.

Ah I guess you are right even though my interest lies in PS1 games

Thanks for the answers guys
