there is already a dozen or so 3d polygonal games on the genesis

Notice the lack of gameplay that isn't moving in circles and how the framerate is worse than on the SNES. Would have been a more impressive post for OP if it were about the port of Wolfenstein 3D to the Mega Drive.

>E.T. for Atari caused the video game crash, and all known cartridges were buried in a landfill because how ashamed the creators were of it

Yes, there was a crash.
Yes, there is actually a landfill.

No, it wasn't caused by E.T.
No, E.T. isn't the only thing buried there. Plenty of games (including Berzerk and Ms. Pac-Man) as well as actual consoles are buried there, and it has nothing to do with wanting to wipe them off the face of the Earth.

Wolfenstein 3D is psuedo-3D.

>Framerate worse than SNES
Well, the SNES uses the Super FX for starfox; if OP's post is true this is a stock genesis with no add ons/on board chips. Which is pretty impressive.

>> No.1250321

>>1250289
This. The Super FX chip was significantly more powerful than the SNES itself, if I remember correctly. It basically did all the heavy lifting, and the SNES just put the finished graphics on screen.

>> No.1250331

Pretty sure Genesis has 3d games that use no addon chips....they just aren't any good.

>> No.1250338

>>1249945
It's obviously just a tech demo, the point is that it is running yet the Genesis contains no special scaling hardware.
>>1250331
Or, you know, you just haven't played the good ones. Gotta love all the ignorant Nintendo fans around here.

Virtua Racing is great.

>> No.1250349

Just for laughs, I'd love to hear the "good ones". And there aren't really any good ones on the SNES, either. Star Fox is mediocre at best. The framerate was unbearable even back in the day.

Nah, Star Fox and Star Fox 2 are fucking amazing despite their low framerates.

How about you fuck off until you've played them? All 3 of those contain scaling with no special chip or hardware.

lel. Those aren't 3d polygon games.

Shit like Hard Driving are 3d polygon games.

While this is impressive, there's no reason to believe an SNES could not do the same thing. This is not like it's running the full game.

Who the fuck was talking about scaling?

Here, I'll quote the reply chain. You tell me where scaling came up.

>Pretty sure Genesis has 3d games that use no addon chips....they just aren't any good.

>Or, you know, you just haven't played the good ones. Gotta love all the ignorant Nintendo fans around here.

>Just for laughs, I'd love to hear the "good ones". And there aren't really any good ones on the SNES, either. Star Fox is mediocre at best. The framerate was unbearable even back in the day.

>Cotton, Vectorman and Sonic 3D Blast to name a few.

>I think he meant 3D games when he said 3D games.

Also, I HAVE played all of them. Panorama Cotton is a solid example of scaling, but I'd substitute in Adventures of Batman and Robin, Red Zone, Mickey Mania, and maybe Pier Solar for the other two if I was trying to make a point about scaling.

>> No.1250412

>>1250405
You've obviously never played it or else you would know the first fucking thing you see when you turn it on is a 3D title screen. Fuck off back to /b/ or /v/ or where ever you're from.

>> No.1250419

>>1250409
The topic is video game myths. Scaling is inherently tied to 3D, lack of scaling = lack of 3D.

>> No.1250427

>>1250419
"3d" is being used to mean "polygon graphics". No, the terms aren't synonymous, but you'd have to be autistic to not follow what is meant, especially given Starfox in the op.

Kind of like this guy

>lack of scaling = lack of 3D
Yes, but that does not mean you can cite games with scaling but no 3D as examples of 3D games.
Get real, dude.

The SNES could do "3D" without any special chips as well if mere scaling is good enough.
You ever hear of this thing called mode 7?

I can't remember the name of the game (some obscure Jap title that probably never got localized), but the Mega Drive had first-person games with real-time, fullscreen 3D as early as 1992.

>> No.1250775

>>1250772
Toy Story had a pseudo-3D segment like that I think. That game is just weird. Crazy good graphics and presentation mixed with bullshit unfun gameplay.
