Onigiri is good but nothing beats a hamburger.

>> No.1248569

Be honest. What would you rather have?

A big mound of rice wrapped in seaweed?

Or two all-beef patties, melted cheese, fresh tomato, crisp lettuce, thinly cut onions, pickles optional, and special sauce on a big, fluffy sesame seed bun?

At least "big mound of rice" sounds more honest than the salespitch you had going for the hamburger.

I also prefer hamburger over onigiri but that's not the point. Trying to westernize everything because companies think you're an idiot is lame.

If you think most people in America are even remotely familiar with onigiri, you are delusional. It has nothing to do with people thinking you're an idiot. Get off of 4chan once in a while. Most people don't bathe in Japanese culture like 4chan does.

Of course you won't know what it is if you never see it. You know how I learned what an onigiri is? I saw it on cartoons when I was a kid. If you look at someone eating it and don't know what he's eating you might have brain problems.

That's nice and all but doesn't refute anything I said.

Most Americans do not read animu and mango or know much about Japan. Unsurprisingly, Japan doesn't know much about America either, outside of stereotypes.

And I don't know why you think because you watched American movies that everyone else consumes media like you do.

Also, your example of cartoons doesn't really fit here, because it will typically appear in a Japanese cartoon. Not everyone watches those.

The game was aimed for kids, they wouldn't have recognized onigiri for christ's sake. Sure it wouldn't have been bad to just leave it there, but then it would have been misinterpreted as ice cream or something, or just as "food" "he's eating something, does it matter what".

Stop getting mad at such trivialities.

So? It's not bad to learn about new things. Unless you don't want to see in your games stuff it's not american. They could at least rename it "rice cake" like they did in old anime dubs.

This

I emulate it from time to time and even knowing now what that black n white thing is, it still looks like a graphical glitch to me.
Putting meat and and other ingredients between processed and cooked wheat is a worldwide custom: whether it be hamburger, sandwich, souvlaki, kebab or a million other international dishes. It's all variants of essentially the same thing. The hamburger has a specific look and is internationally recognised, just like pizza. Onigiri is a regional thing served in Japan that nobody outside of that culture would recognise, especially portrayed in 8 bit as a weird white and black triangle biscuit looking thing.

Australian here, and most everybody knew who Alex Kidd was, and everybody knew what a hamburger is. Ask 500 Australian kids what ONIGIRI is in this year or back in 1989 and you'd be pressed to find one that knows.

You have clearly never had a top-quality burger.

Imagine a good beef patty. Let's say it's 80-20. Just enough fat to flavor it up without shrinking it. It's over an inch thick. They grill it medium-rare and plop it on a dense, fluffy bun.

Where you go from there is limitless. Cheddar cheese and bacon? Lettuce, tomato, and house-made mayo? Personally, I think thick-sliced bacon and peanut butter.

An onigiri, however, is still just a ball of rice.

>An onigiri, however, is still just a ball of rice.

>Wikipedia:
>Traditionally, an onigiri is filled with pickled ume (umeboshi), salted salmon, katsuobushi, kombu, tarako, or any other salty or sour ingredient as a natural preservative. Because of the popularity of onigiri in Japan, most convenience stores stock their onigiri with various fillings and flavors.

When I was a kid and I saw Japanese food in games (like Goemon), it really made me curious as fuck because it looks not only exotic but (usually) appetizing even though I didn't exactly know what it was. It led me to try a lot of Japanese and other foreign cuisines.

Pic related; I remember wondering what the heck kind of food it was for the longest time.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World was the best in the series and they just shit on every game after that. Shouldve kept the game in that style. Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.

I’m a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Japan!
