Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Holy shit.

Love the game, but the passwords are ridiculous.

First of all, you can't just have the game give you a password. You have to find it first. There's a building in each area in which you can get a password to continue your game. The building is not marked. Sometimes it's near the start of the level, sometimes it's near the end. Deal with it.

So, let's say you want to stop the game after just beating a level? Too bad, you have to find the password building first or risk losing the progress you just made. Now, that's not enough.

The password is not only long as fuck, but it uses uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. It's a nightmare. Here's an example of a Mystical Ninja password.

That's why it's an obnoxious password system. They made it intentionally obnoxious.

Yeah, it prevents savescumming, but when I'm just trying to do a normal playthrough of the game it's a huge pain in the ass.

I don't see what business it is of theirs if I want to exploit a casino. I bought the game, if I want to max out my cash then that's my business. Personally I think doing that makes the game LESS fun, but the point is they should allow the player to play out he likes so he has fun. If someone wants to cruise around on god-mode why not let him? It's not like it's hurting anyone else, it's not an MMO here.

No it wouldn't. Some people just want to get through the game normally. There's no reason to put in a stupid password system to try to stop people from trying to savescum.

If people want to savescum, who cares? You can get through SMB3 Super Mario All Stars version by stockpiling items. However, if you just want to play the game normally, you can.

Swords and Fucking Serpents. To save/load, you needed 5 passwords, one master PW and 4 for each of your characters in your party. They were a pain in the ass to enter every goddamn time, and God help you if you wrote them down wrong. Ruining a character password meant losing the character, ruining the master password meant losing your game progress. And then you could only start playing from levels 1, 5 or 10, depending on where you last saved, because the monk temples were in those levels. Madness, I'll tell you.

M.D.'s aren't exactly known for their critical thinking and "common sense" abilities. They're good at absorbing information and applying it in a clinical setting.

Our society has an unwritten rule not to call doctors "nerds" because they save people's lives, and that's cool, but they're exactly the same kind of people we laugh at on Big Bang Theory.

I never really got to see them growing up on PCs. But generally suckiness depends.
- If the password is too long. Past a certain point a game should consider saving less or using save RAM.
- If glyphs can be mixed up, like l/I/i or 0/O/o S/5.
- If a password is required when it shouldn't be. For most games it should only be needed after shutting the console off. Again, save RAM may be more appropriate.
- If the entry form is poorly designed.
- If it uses some gimmick password entry, like >>1238238 actually I think this one wins as far as the OP is concerned.

I agree. I used to spend ages writing down passwords and then putting them back in only to find some letter I wrote down was actually a number or vice versa.

Of course it did let you save at the end of the game with all kinds of money and stuff...which I got from putting an elastic band on a turbo controller while in the lottery (odds are against the house so as long as you have enough money to lose for a bit you'll eventually get infinite cash).

Great game though. I loved multiplayer coop snes games. This was one of the best. Only one better was maybe Secret of Mana.

In CB, to get a password you need to beat a bonus level.

To get a bonus level you need to find three 'character tokens' in one level (like getting KONG in DKC). These tokens are a bitch to find (especially later in the game).

The bonus levels themselves are ridiculously hard too.

Once you've used up a save within a bonus level, you can never re-use that save point again. By the end of the game you're left with just ridiculously hard save points you can't 'win' unless you deliberately preserved the starting few.
