It's not bad. Changes a lot from the games, but it's worth checking out. A lot of people don't like Falcon's Racer X-esque portrayal, but I think it suits him well.

Went to Japan in 2011. Visited lots of manga shops and a few vidya stores. At the time I was into manga a lot so I came home with 46 volumes and only about 7 games total. (4 GB, 1 GBA, 1 N64) I took pics of random things throughout my entire trip.
Fast forward to yesterday. Was looking through pics from a hobby store and I noticed that right in front of me was a Jap copy of F-Zero X and I didn't even notice it. It was about ¥150-250.

The F-Zero tournament is pretty much a pro wrestling circuit gone bad and placed in futuristic racing machines. Racers aren't just racers. They're heroes, villains, celebrities, supernatural beings and everything in-between, and they're out there being those things even when they aren't racing. Zoda is a complete maniac with no regard for life, and even he has fans and sponsors. The demand for high-octane entertainment in the future is so extreme, they let anyone and everything in if it'll draw viewers.

The closest IRL thing to this I can think of is Santo, the Lucha wrestler who became a symbol of justice in Mexico.
