My brothers and I were huge into Goldeneye when it came out. We only had three rules: No short people, no chops, no shooting an unarmed man. And it worked - mostly because I was about 14 at the time and so was their equal in skill and could handle the occasional "accident". (and maybe make a few myself)

Fighting games (MK series and Soul Calibur, mostly): Random select only. If you get shit, learn to deal with it. Explains why we're aces with the Edge Master-type characters, I guess.

Mario Kart series: It's your job to watch the other's player's ass in GP mode. If you fire a Blue Shell, always give warning (usually the phrase "it's away!" would accompany the firing of a Blue).

Contra/Life Force: Life-stealing only allowed by request.

Don't yell "WAVE RACE" in Wave Race 64 like the announcer because Mom thinks it's a bad word in Spanish. I still got grounded for that and I was like fourteen.

An unspoken rule was to get silent and not make eye contact if anything sexy ever happened on screen.

The only thing I can think of in Super Smash Bros (and also in melee) was :

and that was really really fun. We weren't even Zelda fanboys at all, but playing with the same character mean that you mastered his moves and that you also knew perfectly the moves of your adversary, so a lot more mind play was in the game. Also Hyrule is the biggest stage in smash bros, so the least random one, and the one in which a life would last the longest, thus allowing for more unexpected turn overs
