ITT we nominatin

Nominations for a strawpoll in a day or two. Poll will have multiple votes so don't worry.

We gonna start nominations over because I got overwhelmed. Being the most understanding board, I have faith in /vr/ that this won't lead to a total shitstorm.

The goal is NOT to enumerate every decent game on a system. It is to eventually make a list of games /vr/ thinks are relevant.

> To nominate, post an image of your game and make sure its clear which system you want it on. Yes this is a pain in the ass.

Try to stick to

> games which introduced, exemplified, or had a lasting effect on their genre
> games which marked particular milestones for genres, game design, or technology
> games that /vr/ talks about a lot
> games that are still enjoyable to play
Goals:
10 /vr/-core garmes for top of the image
20 /vr/ additional recommended garmes underneath

These can be mixed console/genre, anything that /vr/ can agree new posters should absolutely be playan

10ish recommendations by popular systems. Currently thinking:
NES
SNES
GB/GBC
Genesis
N64
PS
Mixed PC

Considering Saturn and Turbo, but 7 is already a lot. Bitch at me if you want to.

It's not that well known but Ranger-X is a great action game that pushed the Genesis to its absolute limits.

I think it's important we create defined brackets or tiers. Does each tier need equal representation by system? Or are there going to be a core group of games that are an inevitable weight towards one system(likely SNES because come on)

Anyways, here are my recommendations:

VR-Core: Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Doom, Castlevania(Series? or if not Dracula's Curse), Final Fantasy Tactics, Megaman(Series? If not II), Donkey Kong Country(Series? If not 1), Super Mario Bros 3, Sonic(Series? If not 3 or Sonic and Knuckles), The Legend of Zelda(Series? If not A link to the past because we aren't being hipsters for Majora's Mask and everyone and their dog has talked about Ocarina)

VR Second tier classics:
Streets of Rage 2
Earthbound
Ranger X
Gunstar Heroes
Starfox 64
Spyro(whichever)
Ducktails
Silent Hill
Demon's Crest
Kirby's Adventure
TMNT(Series? If not Turtles in Time)
Blaster Master
Perfect Dark
Age of Empires
Contra(series, if not III)
Earthworm Jim
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Ecco the Dolphin(Sega CD version)
MUSHA or Gradius(a Shmup should be present)
Phantasy Star IV

So there's what I think. My favoritism towards the SNES/Genesis era is obvious and I've never been much in the way of retro PC games(was mostly a fan of strategy).

I do think a VR macro is a good idea, and hopefully my list will give us something to dissect/build off of.

The Virtual Console game catalog is actually all really good or at least noteworthy games. I'd say those are a good starting point. Make sure to check out the Japanese catalog especially.

Are we talking boxart or screenshots?
Also, would you consider including arcade games?

boxart for the eventual macro (to make my life easier)

Arcade would be alright if it's easily accessible in some way. It would be nice to stay away from games that are a pain in the ass to play for the average anon

Oh, and my picks:
>Final Fantasy (even if you don't like the games, you have to admit they're core- just due to the colossal amount of discussion they garner)
>Day of the Tentacle (goat for Western Adventures)
>Yu-No (goat for Japanese Adventures - even had a 500+ post thread a couple weeks ago)
>Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, Live-A-Live (phenomenal 16-bit RPGs that all focus on concepts beyond space and time)
