>watching Nintendo Direct for November 2013
>eShop sales for Virtual console games
>this week it's Zelda
>check eShop
>it's still overpriced
>check eShop webpages
>scan special offer QR code
>"this software is not currently available"

Are those sales only for North America?

>> No.1209704

Yes, Nintendo promotions are run separately per region. If you're European then follow based Shibata's show, American announcements are irrelevant to us.

FUCK I was looking forward to buying original Super Mario Brothers 2 for a decent price.
(Yes, I am cheapskate and also poor)

>> No.1209709

Just buy a LA:DX cart and a GBC/GBA.

No DRM. Not tied to one system.

>> No.1209710

Also, what does it mean? Will there be special offers for Europe too? Should I wait or just buy it?

>DRM

VC games have DRM? Aren't they just ROMs?

>> No.1209723

>>1209716

Can you copy them to other systems and shit?

>> No.1209726

The emulator is locked to the games you buy. Not technically DRM but you know what he means.

>> No.1209732

>>1209710
What it means is that the American announcements and sales campaigns are completely irrelevant to European people unless they import US systems. I don't work in Nintendo GmbH so I don't know what they're planning, your best bet is to follow what Shibata is saying.

>>1209716
haha of course there's drm
you can't vc downloads to a friend, can you? play them across more than one 3ds? there's device-specific license based drm

Oh, yeah, that I understand. Sorry for being retarded, I'll try not to do it again.

Wait, Nintendo does sales?

Are you saying that if I break my 3DS, it's gone?
What about that system transfer thingy?

>> No.1209759

>>1209740
You can't run the system transfer program on a 3DS that won't turn on... Nintendo's digital purchase system is disgusting.

>> No.1209773

>>1209759
You're basically fucked if the mobo goes. 3DS mobos are easy to swap in and out, but if you lose it then game over.

Truly it is hard to deal with my combined desire to download and my desire to have easily preserved games.

>> No.1209789

>>1209773
Yes, it's easy to repair the handhelds if you order some parts, but Nintendo's DRM is among the absolute worst in this late stage of the digital age. I advise to avoid giving them any money from digital purchases until they implement an account system and less restrictive content usage policies.

Unless you have great /vr/ sales locally at a flea market or whatever, it's probably just cheaper to fork up the $6.00 if you have a 3ds.

Or, you know, just emulate it. Graphing calculators could emulate LA by now.

>> No.1210391

>>1209773
Nintendo's download service is definitely shitty without an account system, but I didn't have a problem transferring my download games to a 3DS XL. Just took a phone call.

Having physical copies of the old game carts is certainly the best way to go, though.

I don't think graphing calculators have enough pixels for the graphics on it.

The funny part about all this is that Link's Awakening isn't even that great. Link to the Past is better in every way.

Opinions, man. Of course lttp is the more complex game, but I still prefer LA.

>> No.1210531

Right now Nintendo is trying their best to sell WiiU in North America and Direct is targeted just to them. I don't know a equilvilant to it for Europeans but I'm guessing there's sites that you can go to that updates it when there's sales over there. I personally have no qualms buying the roms from Nintendo I just wish they did something about their fucked up prices. I understand it's MUCH more expensive to get a cart but they are just selling a rom. I don't know how licensing works since for it but it most likely doesn't cost them much. And rating it with the ESRB since most of them were made before it was thought up.

>$6.00

Shit, that's pretty reasonable.

I haven't shopped the VC since I first got my Wii at launch, but that's very decent.

I really wish Nintendo would do "budget" releases of old games on small physical carts. Like, some proprietary SD-esque card that fit into both a 3DS and Wii U and holds save data on the cart itself. Something along the lines of say, $10 for LA:DX or $15 for Earthbound with very minimal/ small packaging so it feels like you are actually getting something for your money, while the devs actually get revenue from the sale.

>Right now Nintendo is trying their best to sell WiiU in North America and Direct is targeted just to them.
American Nintendo Direct is targeted at Americans, yes. And the European Nintendo Direct is for Europeans... It's totally crazy, next they'll be saying that Japanese Nintendo Direct is intended for the Japanese.

Properly designed handheld games are like this.

Limited buttons, so they have to make the game work with what they have.

>> No.1215028

>>1214973
The one issue I have with LA is that the two or four extra buttons would have been nice so you didn't have to keep switching items.
