ITT: Good, retro licensed games.

They were such a rarity in the 80s through 90s. Nowadays they tend to be much more bearable instead of utter shit fests.

As mentioned at >>1198181 Disney games from the 90s tend to be pretty above average.

I always thought Mandark's Lab was pretty great. I used to love playing it but I mysteriously lost my disc inside my own house a few years ago.. Maybe I threw it out. I'll need to buy a new copy probably

I still have this game. It's pretty goddamn shallow and easy. Not offensively bad, just aggressively mediocre.

>> No.1205336

This game is great. Loved the hell out of the Genesis version. Probably the most fun platformer I ever played. The NES version is an entirely different game that does suck though. Haven't played the SNES version though, so I can't vouch for that one.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people have problems with that stage. Unless there are versions featuring advancing spiked walls, Medusa Heads and other things that make them considerably more difficult than the Genesis version, just what is the problem?

There are like a grand total of 5 monkeys you need to roar at through the entire stage. There is one tricky (and I'm using the word "tricky" VERY loosely here) jump in the riding section. The 3 hippo tails above water can be skipped by climbing onto the dark hippo above the first gray one.

So why is this level in any way infamous?

Quackshot is indeed my favorite of the Disney games, ever.

There were a lot of shitty licensed games back then, just like now, but both Disney and Warner had good partnerships with Capcom, Sega and Konami, those companies were still small back then, and they had their own developers inhouse (instead of resourcing to other third parties like they do now), they knew how to make good games.

I was never a big fan of Virgin's games (although I've played most of them), but they were mostly pretty decent too, I just think their japanese counterparts were a little bit better in terms of overall game mechanics, but Virgin made some pretty incredibly nice looking games (Aladdin, for example).
And speaking of Virgin, I'm one of those people who thinks M.C. Kids is actually a great platformer. Funnily enough it's probably my favorite Virgin game.

Isn't it ironic too that Mc Donald's got another pretty good game too? the Treasure game for Genesis, it's actually a great platformer.

tiny toons because warner brothers licensed it to konami, those god damn beautiful bastards.

You can't skip the hippos in the SNES version. Simba jumps higher on Genesis, further on SNES. The last riding section has one extra obstacle to trip you up on the SNES.

As a kid I had the most trouble with the part where you need to jump back on those floating logs in the middle of the second monkey throw section. You can't hesitate once you've started jumping. Can't Wait to be King was never a stage I considered difficult, though.

There are many little version differences between the two, but overall I find the Genesis version marginally easier.

Taz Escape from Mars. I always loved the idea that you were running away from the enemy's lair rather than heading right into the heart of it. A solid platformer with some great level design.

You're talking like one wearing thick 20/20 nostalgia glasses. There were lots of good licensed games released during the 80s and 90s, but most were absolute garbage. Now most licensed games are mediocre, but there haven't been many exceptionally good ones.

I don't think anon meant it was bad for being easy. My personal gripes with Mandark's Lab are that a lot of the minigames feel like a chore and that the game isn't very long. That being said, it's not terrible, just designed with younger players in mind.

Willow on the NES was awesome. I hear the arcade version is also good, though it's a different genre from the NES one.
