What is the best NES/famicom version to get?

>> No.1204149

Sharp brand Famicom Titler

>> No.1204154

Top loader unless you're totally nostalgic. Just works better. Less blowing in carts.

Sadly i don't have $1200 to drop on a single game console.

Enjoy your jailbars.

The one in your pic plus a converter.

get the original front-loading one. you can clip one of the chips on the board so it's a "universal" nes and you don't get the vertical bars on screen.

>>1204154
this one suffers from the same fate as the model 1 or model 2 genesis. (one of them had darker colors and weird "bars" especially during the white sega logos)

>> No.1204192

Super nintendo with super 8

AV famicom is the best model but it's somewhat expensive.

NES front loader or top loader is your best bet for a cheap console.

Unless you absolutely want one don't get an original famicom, quality wise it's the same as the NES top loader but it also has hardwired controllers and the wires for those controllers are very short. Often you will find the cheaper ones have a controller that is broken and usually the console itself is not in great shape anyway.

I only notice them when I'm looking for them. Enjoy giving your cartridges blowjobs. Also, it's a simple fix if you have any soldering skills, whatsoever.

That said, the AV Famicom is the best system for having built in Composite and removeable controllers, and I think it and a Famicom Disk System look more stylish than the Sharp Twin Famicom.

Clipping the 10NES is easier than soldering things. The biggest issue with the 001 is the front loader, the pins could either get dirty (most likely) or loose (not very likely but possible). In the first case, take an NES cleaner and clean that bitch out, should work as good as new. Pins loosening up means you need to open up the console and pry the pins back up (best way) or replace the pin connector, which takes all of 10 minutes to do, if you have a cordless drill screwdriver.

Overall, the 001 is the best due to all the modding possibilities.

And how do you stop the ZIF slot from wearing down again? I have yet to have any toploading systems cartridge slots wear down, while my Frontloader has had it's old ZIF fixed twice, replaced once, and fixed the replacement once.

And as far as modding capabilities, the only ones I'd consider doing is adding composite (which I did to my toploader), and adding RGB, which also can be done with a toploader. What other mods would you even want to do to a NES?

>And how do you stop the ZIF slot from wearing down again?
You don't you just have to clean it and tweak it periodically.
The ZIF isn't self cleaning like most connectors so stuff gets caught in there. You can help it significantly by cleaning your games

001 = >9000
101 = 0

>>1204246
I keep all my cartridges clean and I use dust covers. It's entirely the bending issue that causing the problems with my Frontloader. I'll just stick with using my composite modded Toploader.

That wasn't what you asked.

Is $140 too much to pay for a AV famicom?

That seems to be the cheapest they go for on ebay.

It sucks that the toploader NES doesnt have AV out.

>> No.1204414

>>1204406
that's about what you should expect from resellers, you're not going to get them cheap unless you also happen to be visiting japan and can buy them direct

>> No.1204418

also keep in mind you're going to need a converter for NES games to work on famicom

>> No.1204421

>>1204406
Overpriced imo. Unless it's CIB in REALLY good condition
---
AV Famicom I'd say.

>> No.1204427

>>1204414
Yeah, the postage is something like $30.

>> No.1204520

I use :
- AV Famicom
- NES-001 pads (I like them better than av famicom/top loader pads)
- NES to Famicom converter to also play NES games on it
- the everdrive n8 flashcart to play rare games and romhacks
- a PAL NES to play the handful of PAL exclusives at their correct speed

Perfect setup, I can play everything. You could also get a toploader and a famicom to nes converter but in this case, for the (very few) games that have better music on their famicom version, you'd be missing out. Up to you to see if you think that's worth it.

Got my AV famicom for 30$ on ebay but that was already 4 years ago.

and to answer OP's question, I own various NESes, a PAL NES, a chineses famicom with av outpout, the original jap famicom and the av famicom. The av famicom is the best.

The best NES is the SNES.

>> No.1204814

>>1204535
That thing is retarded. All it is is a NAOC that steals electricity and controller inputs from the cartridge slot. You have to plug a dedicated audio/video wire into the cartridge to make it do anything and since it's a NOAC it's going to have issues with games. Might as well emulate if you're going to do that.

This thing is garbage, mine stopped working after a couple of months. Avoid.

I just scored an A/V fami off ebay. No power supply though. Is the Genesis Model 1 supply actually suitable as a lot of forums suggest? I live in the U.S btw.

>> No.1205649

The Genesis 1 AC adapter is a cover-all for almost anything that needs 9-10V DC. Also they're dirt-common and last for decades.

How much did you pay?

>> No.1205946

>>1205867
120 shipped. Not bad, got 4 games as well. Most are starting at 150-180 starting bids. I'm pretty happy. Just don't want to fry it, I want to be 100 percent that my model 1 adapter will be fine.

>> No.1206012

Damn, i paid $140 for mine, just the console and 2 controllers. but it is mint. no yellowing at all.

>> No.1206031

You can get an original Famicom from Rakuten Global for about 30-45 bucks including shipping. The games there are very cheap too, so if you don't mind having them in Japanese it's a good option.

>> No.1206040

>>1206012
What do you use for the power adapter? 140 isn't bad i'd still consider that a good buy. Especially if its mint.
