I used to use a PSP to emulate, but like others have said, anything more advanced than Megadrive/CD is too much for it. Even SNES stops working, slows down, music breaks etc.
I don't have any use for portable systems any more though.

Pretty good but not perfect. Frame rate and graphics are good, sound seems to be iffy in star ocean.

Streaming depends on your computer, router. I've got a good setup and it works great but YMMV.

Psx, n64 are good on it.

>> No.1197449

>>1197439
Hmm, will keep it in mind. Thanks for the info.

>> No.1197467

Let me see.... I was pleasantly surprised about lag and streaming... The frame rate isn't as high as on the computer, but its pretty responsive. Much better than say on live or remote desktop apps like splashtop. I took it upstairs, and plugged it into my TV with HDMI while streaming pcsx2 and it connected up right away without problems.

The shield supports USB controllers pretty well too. Bought a $2 otg cable and can plug USB controllers right into it. My favorite part is that I can play SNES and psx on a flat screen at home and its as simple as unplugging it and keep on playing on the go.

Biggest complaint is the price. Its put together well and works well at pretty much everything but you add in a big microsd card, and a good router (the best price/performance asus is $150) and its just expensive. Overall, good experience.

I don't like Genesis or SNES games on the DS because there aren't enough vertical pixels to emulate either system properly. So the emulators cut entire horizontal rows to make it fit and it makes alot of the art look terrible and games that depend on text unreadable. But the DS with DS2 great for NES, GB, and GBA. Though lately it's emulation purposes have been shelved since my GCW-Zero arrived.

I don't wanna get into one of these "this system is better than that system" sort of debates. It's just my preferred choice because it's designed for retro with a 4:3 low res screen providing a 1:1 pixel ratio, 1ghz processor, 512mb of ram, and built around an open software project. It's also really nice to be able to swap games and emulators off and on over FTP.

>> No.1198204

>>1198191
My apologies. Had threads go sour in the past. It's just got a bit more power for emulators to take advantage of. People seems to bring up the fact that SNES emulators on PSP have problems FX chip games like Starfox and Yoshi's Island. Also large stretching and transparencies like the fog in DKC or the first boss in Megaman X2. SNES9x4D on the Zero runs them all without issue at a constant 60FPS. PocketSNES chokes on Starfox but has better sound on all other games.

You guys don't like SNES on PSP?
I'm not expert, but I played a shitload of SNES on that thing. The only lag I actually remember was when I used Luminaire in Chrono Trigger, but I actually really liked that because it made the spell seem that much larger in scale. All in all it was a good console for emulators, but don't get it if you have bad luck/history with breaking consoles. I went through two of them in ~4 years, and that was before I knew you could buy systems outside of Future Shops and Best Buys.

As far as I know, you have to boot it back up each time you turn it off and back on, though it apparently doesn't take that long at all.

http://wololo.net/cfw4dummies/

1000 and 2000 can have permanent CFW, though finding a 2000 (which has extra RAM) may not be easy when Sony wants everyone to buy the E1000 instead

>> No.1199510

Have PSP Go, can confirm. Honestly you don't have to turn it off unless it freezes up or crashes, and even if it does it takes one button to fix it.

JXD is fairly close. The better screen and Android might offset the speed and price.
GCW has 1/2 the ram, 1/2 the clock speed and 1/4 the cores. Not even close. Except the price which is only like $25 less.

It's very difficult to compete with game companies because they make their money off other stuff. They often sell consoles at a loss. That's why there's always people looking to hack them. Because if you can you get a great piece of hardware for cheap.
