Is NES metroid worth the club nintendo coins?

>> No.1187092

Download a ROM and dick around for an hour. If you like it enough and want to continue playing on your Wii/3DS, go right ahead.

Personally, I don't care for the game and would spend my coins elsewhere. But that's me.

>> No.1187094 [DELETED]

I am going to take this shitpost thread to voice something, I made a thread a short time ago asking for games that mostly females like. This thread was deleted either a mod or a janitor rather quickly. It seems both the staff and users are over reactionary and jump to conclusions on the intention of threads. I would also like to state that my post was not fueled by retarded sexism. There ARE some games that females statistically like more than males and such things interest me. Also there is nothing in the rules stating that you can not make posts pertaining to things involving females. Sure, those sort of threads DO invite trolls and morons but delete THOSE posts, not the thread it's self.

I didn't like it as a kid, so I ended up never getting into the series. Don't know if that helps.

I looked for a thread I made earlier and couldn't find it. Guessing the same thing happened to me, even though it was /vr/ related. It was just a silly tongue-in-cheek thread and not the typical serious dull shit that clogs up the board, so I guess they went all reddit on it.

Janitors will censor posts as well with unpopular opinions. If you dont like zelda, earthbound, or any other hipster-backed franchise it will be seen as a shit posts. Reported by princess seven shits and will get deleted. Even if its a thread people are posting in a lot. If a janitor or mod doesnt like it theyll start deleting posts until the thread makes no sense then just delete the thread entirely. Thats why theres nothing to talk about on this board and its the same 5-6 threads on repeat for months. This board could have been good. It's mostly shit now.

Good grief, you guys can be such bastards to each other.

My opinion: no. It's not really that great of a game. Even compared just to Nes games, it's not that good.

Do keep in mind I played it after a childhood of Super Metroid, but since you've probably played that too, even with a more accepting stance the game is not special.

The hand holding was optional, at least.
And the game made up for it by having the hardest collectibles in the series. All those fucking speed booster puzzles were the death of me.

Still mad that the Mecha-Ridley fight ruined the ending though. I actually liked the Zero Suit sequence, but that was such a disappointing way to end the game.

no, actually easier, you can play again keeping all your powerups from your first game minus energy tanks and missile tanks. and if you beat it under 3 hours (even your 2nd time through with all your powerups intact) you get to play as Samus without her suit. now that's some damn fine replay value.

There is literally no reason whatsoever to pick the original Metroid given a choice between the two.

>> No.1188551

Third best Metroid ever made. Only Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and skytown Elysia from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are better.

Zero Mission is a good game, but it does not have no pre-made sequence breaking nor it has nearly absolute freedom to do whatever you want like in the original game. The fast gameplay works well but I prefer slow game mechanisms like in Super and Prime cuz it add more atmosphere. There's too much hand-holding, which is something that should never appear in a Metroid game to start with. BUT at least it does not have copy-pasted rooms (Metroid 1 has a lot of this in Kraid).

Metroid is one of the greatest games of all-time. Whenever you play it, it's like playing a piece of gaming history. With any game, I still recommend you test it first before buying if you can, though.

Some people argue Metroid didn't age so well. I think Metroid aged as well as The Legend of Zelda did. New versions of Zelda came along that were arguably superior, but the original remained a classic masterpiece, and so does Metroid.

Metroid was way ahead of its time. The music that featured space silence parts, tight gameplay, and one of the most shocking plot twists ever in a video game. Say what you want about Metroid, but it's classic, and one of the best NES games ever.

Yes, just realize certain things about it before going in.

Like other games of the time, you need to draw a map. This game is what Dark Souls wishes it was as far as labyrinth designs go. The planet is meant to be confusing and similar due to being an alien environment. Getting lost is supposed to scare you.

The game was meant to be played with that pro joystick controller for the NES, so it will be harder to play on the 3DS.

The jumps are floaty so you have more time to aim at enemies while falling.

Take things slow.

The game requires that you really get into it. There are no conveniences like a map or people who will tell where to go. So you have either the choice to wonder where the fuck you're supposed to go or draw your own map. It can be a chore if you're pussified by more modern games.

Is it worth the trouble? Absolutely. Exploring the world is so much fun and solving things without a helping hand really rewarding. It's also the most atmospheric 8 bit title you'll ever find.
