Can we have a thread for this? How many are emulated successfully? Which one is the best?

All of them. And SD3.

3 is seen as the definitive one that fixes the mistakes from the 2nd one (Going by Japanese timelines here). Personally I haven't played the 3rd one but I do prefer the 2nd ones combat system over the system found in 3 and Sword of Mana.

The music and the wide range of weapons are what make me love this game so much. Oh and also the artwork which is amazing. The art style from the 2nd one is my favorite with all the dark green on the cover and the red birds flying by.

The only flaws I have for the 2nd game are

1. AI getting stuck
2. Running, you are stuck going in a straight line
3. Boss music is absolute garbage compared to the rest of the sound track
4. Stacking magic against enemies after your 3rd sprite makes you invincible but the game is still challenging if you try and only use buffs and weapons.
5. The map view with Flammie, I just hate the overly pixelated view and how everything looks the same, and waiting for the full map to load everytime is a pain.

Other than those 5 things I would say it's 10 out of 10 but a 9 out of 10 is my realistic review.

All of them should be easily emulatable. Seiken Densetsu 3 is probably the best overall but most of them have their charms.

Secret of Mana great too (one of my favorite games actually) but it has a few issues

>Boss AI stunlocking you at the start of the game with magic
>party members getting stuck on the edges of stairs
>dodgy hit detection at times
>the translation we got is anemic at best, it translates conversations down to their absolute bare essentials
I still love it though, it's a flawed gem.

So Ive played Seiken Densetsu 3 and Secret of Mana, but what about 2? I dont think Ive ever seen it. I think SoM is 2 maybe, but if so what is number 1.

Yo, Final Fantasy Adventure: Mystic Quest for GameBoy was Seiken Densetsu 1, and SoM is 2.

All the gameboy "Final Fantasy" titles are other games localized as "Final Fantasy" in order to sell. The other ones are Saga games, IIRC.

I love the music, story, characters, themes, and the overall feel of the game. The gameplay itself, though, is really mediocre.

Man now I feel like plugging my PSone and playing some comfy Legend of Mana (and maybe also Valkyrie Profile, just because), but I know I'll be too lazy to properly finish it, probably.

I find the gameplay relaxing, but I'm easily amused by dungeon crawling type stuff even if it is pretty repetitive. I did really enjoy all the crafting and monster raising shit you could do.

>> No.1185201

I would love to say 3 is my favorite but I just can't. It has one massively glaring flaw. And that's the leveling system. Guideless you are fucked. Nothing is ever explained and the light and dark system is nice but once again there's no hints on what does what. So you are grinding because you are under powered or used a guide and was able to one shot everything because of how balanced everyone is.
I don't hate the game I just had how clueless you are leveling your character.

>smooth sailing
>haven't saved for hours
>go to desert
>enter screen
>fucking ninja instantly does split image whatever
>whole party dead

SD3's gameplay was so fucking broken and so clunky it might've as well been ATB.

>>1185201
That's a fair criticism. I went for a purely melee team using a guide for class changing and the difficulty was still good for the final dungeon.

I'd still rank 3 over LoM though. LoM's less engaging combat and subpar difficulty is a turn-off even in the presence of gameplay features like weapon crafting, golem making, etc.

But I guess people who like customization will prefer LoM for those same features.

there was no need for guides, the only problen was if your principal character was magic instead of melee andyou could change it and keep the story of the first

The only Mana game I've played was Sword for GBA. I never finished it, but I liked it. I have to ask, should I play FF Adventure instead? Can I skip to Secret?

>> No.1189246

>>1189190
There's not really much in the way of direct continuity in the games, so from a plot perspective you can play them in whatever order you want. FFA is still a fun game worth playing, and a lot of people actually prefer it to Sword of Mana.

Just keep in mind it's missing a lot of the stuff that defines the Mana series. No Mana spirits, magic is learned from books you find in chests or get from bosses, it has a chocobo, and almost all the sprites in the game are lifted straight from the NES era FF games. The whole point of Sword of Mana was to remake FFA as game with the feel of other Mana game instead of the FF spin-off it started out as.

I have a lot of downtime at work, so i downloaded secret of mana on my wife's old Iphone. I have the game growing up, and it's a blast. I've gotten every 9th weapon orb, leveled all magic to 8.99, maxed out on all weapons with everyone ( but not the sword--the sword is for the hero.) and hit level 99.

but, as i can't hols L,R, start, and select to reset it, is there a way to get the 9th sword orb in Secret of Mana on the iphone?

>> No.1189703

Seiken Densetsu 1 actually has chocobos and a lot of Final Fantasy references. Calling it Final Fantasy Adventure isn't much of a stretch. Been a while since I played the GB SaGa games, but I don't recall those being very FF-ish and the title choice was most likely entirely a marketing ploy.

>> No.1189732

Hawkeye is definitely one of my favorite brotags in any game. More art like this pls

>> No.1189910

>>1189703
The GB SaGa games reused a lot of sprite work from the NES FF games just like SD1/FFA did. FF2's leveling system was also the prototype for the SaGa games, and several of the people who worked on FF2 became part of the team that made SaGa.

In a way, the SaGa games were a series that spun-off of FF2, while the Seiken Densetsu games were a spin-off inspired by FF3. FF3 had a Mana Tree, although it wasn't the main focus of the plot. FF3 also had the first moogles, and moogles then showed up in SD1 and 2 while there weren't any moogles in FF4. But then Square decided moogles should be an FF thing, so they were in FF5 and on, and they didn't show up in any other Mana games.
