You get light RPing and completely pretentious. I don't mind light RPing but if you're going to be a total faggot about who can and cannot be in your treehouse then keep your lonely world.

>> No.1176992

>>1175738
The pretense in this case being that the fantasy world you're interacting with is real. Many MUDs require a minimum of adherence to this idea because it only takes one person to ruin it for everyone else, not because they want to be elitist or exclusionary. I hope everyone gives them at least an honest try without preconceptions.

>> No.1177017

>>1176992
The problem is the level of pretentiousness.

I have seen people do 10 and 15 minute posts and DEMAND that everyone else in the M* do the same or GTFO. I'm sorry, posting just 3 times an hour is not my cup of tea.

Seriousy, WTF, man? These people aren't even posting an actual description of what their character is doing. They are describing the scenery, metagaming, and sometimes even filling in YOUR PART (god moding) instead of just describing one action and hitting send.

And that's why I don't do MU*s anymore.

>> No.1177038

>>1177017
What I'm trying to make a case for is simple "always be in-character" requirements. What you're describing just sounds like people being jerks.

>> No.1177072

>>1177038
I don't mind when people are always in character. The problem is that it frequently devolves into the 10 and 15 minute post garbage. The worst part is that these folks think they are the absolute pinnacle of roleplaying and in-character skill and either chase away everyone who isn't a total jerk like they are or force otherwise normal folks to also do crap 10 minute posts in order to avoid ridicule.

They also are the same players who leave their characters online 24-7 even if they aren't online which clogs the screen with idle folks, making it harder to find people to play with. When they do come online they fill the screen with their crap posts, which further kills any actual roleplaying going on.

Does the game have a post limit to try to stop this? They put [continuing] at the end of the post and keep on writing. Does the game time out when you don't post or move for 10 minutes? They use bots to keep things active while typing. Try to tell them they're slow, metagaming godmoders and they will baww about how they aren't and that you just SUCK at roleplaying.

The longer an MU is around the more of the idiots always show up. The only places I have seen this not happen is in pockets with dedicated GMs, and those are dead whenever the GM is not online. Even with GMS we still get the issue of the Mary Sue and Power Gamers! Good luck kicking them all out.

Sticking to tabletop for sanity's sake... it's the best thing I can think of until someone finds a way to kill twinks, godmoders, mary dues, powergamers, and metagmaers via game mechanics that said jerks can't circumvent.

It sounds like you want to play HellMOO.

It's basically a Fallout MUD. Modern-day technology, radiation everywhere, guns and drugs, and a surprisingly deep combat system.

As for the roleplaying aspects...

People do roleplay, but they're not retarded about it. Nobody para's (if you've played more than a handful of MUD's you probably know what this means) in HellMOO.

I never felt comfortable with HellMOO, role-playing getting raped was too much for me.

>> No.1177120

>>1177086
Yeah, I didn't want to scare off non-MU* players with crazy jargon. Para is ok when well-written. MULTIpara is when all hell breaks loose. Multiline/Semipara is best, IMHO.

I thought about HellMoo but am not 100% sold on it. I saw this in a help site:
>yiff thing
...does this mean there are furries all over or is this a joke?

>> No.1177136

>>1177120
There are fursuits in HellMOO, but nobody uses them, and they're really only in the game as a joke.

There's a lot of other sex-related commands though. Fuck, Assfuck, Suck, Titfuck, Jerkoff, and maybe others.

Warning: Serious HellMOO players tend to look down on people who are openly sexual. If you want to sexhave, do it behind closed doors. And stay the hell out of Hellfire.

>> No.1177160

>>1177136
>Reads manual
> Hellfire Sex Club. Stay out.
Is that due to the stigma of being into tinysex, because Hellfire is rape central, or something else?

>> No.1177350

>>1177160
It's because there's a small minority of players who play ONLY for the sex content (called "sexhavers"), and they frequently visit Hellfire, because that's what Hellfire is for. It's like the sexhaver hookup place.

And the serious HellMOO players don't like sexhavers.

Also important to note: HellMOO has televisions. They can be tuned to a variety of in-game TV stations, one of which is a live feed of Hellfire. That's right, when you go to Hellfire, anyone online could be watching you. And there are players who will camp in front of a TV and wait for people to enter Hellfire, then run in and kill them.

HellMOO players are assholes. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

>> No.1178832

I go back and play Ancient Anguish every now and then. SWMud had me playing for awhile too. I fell in love with the space/ships part of the game, but they stopped development of that, not knowing how to code it.

I don't like the always-in-character style.

AA has seen countless hours into many characters. Also where I met a GF I ended up living with for awhile.
