Check the SMT general on /vg/. Their OP always has a lot of information about how to play the games you want. And yes there are patches in english for the SNES games but I think it would be easier to play another game of the series before because the names and explanations can be confusing if you`re not familiarized with the series. Still, excelent games that deserve to be among the best rpgs on SNES. I`d say SMT2 stands right beside FFVI and Chrono Trigger as the best rpgs on the console.

I tried playing the translated rom for SMT1, had a bunch of fatal lockups periodically. Don't know if I had a bad ROM or if that a newer one's available.

I really would like to play the original, the only other SMT I've played was SJ. It really had me going until the end. I love the original's artwork though.

SMT1 was translated by a shitty team. /vg/ had an anon that went back and fix all of the bugs that the first team claimed was unfixable where it seem like they were just being lazy.

The good patch should be somewhere on SMT general OP on /vg/

Seriously, aeon genesis broke more then what they fixed. Don't let that shitty patch discourage you from playing the first game.

I know right? With the amount of love SMT gets here (and everywhere else) one would expect not only both Kyuuyaku and If... would be translated ages ago, but even the originals for NES and even all the PS1 remakes, because why the fuck not?

Both have English Translated Scripts available, but not actual ROM patches.

If you really wanted to, you could just play the moonrunes one and follow along with the english text on Re-Miels translation/walkthrough.
