Give Marjoly an actual role in a Disgaea or Makai Kingdom game. There are too many people who weren't able to appreciate her appearance as an optional boss.

One of my absolute favorites, I love every song on it.

The sound quality is incredible for the SNES and the amount of samples is absolutely staggering. The composition is really good too with some classic Mario remixes, a lot of original bouncy tunes, and even a couple Final Fantasy songs. It was one of the later SNES games and it really shows in the sound design.

Definitely not that game. It has great production work but most of the music is forgettable. Shit take wandering ghosts. It's up beat and when it plays it's like yeah this is nice. But there's almost nothing of it that really plays into it's own unique melodies or anything. While you can make a perfectly fitting soundtrack that isn't memorable, the best soundtracks are melodic and memorable, shit like vampire killer and bloody tear and wicked child stick with us for a reason. Because they were extremely melodic and stood out. About the best that soundtrack does is the Saturn version has a rendition of bloody tears that's partially awesome. Though I've heard better fan made versions.

SotN is far from being the greatest, but there are lost of good tracks in it. The "Moonlight Nocturne" is very good, "Wood Carving Partita", ""Reqiem For The Gods" et al. The Saturn version has a really great Jazz arrangement of "Beginning", too.

Like I said, good productions, they have a decent grasp on their styles, but they're forgettable as fuck.

Wood Carving Partita for example could be replaced with portions of numerous allegretto harpsichord/string suites from the baroque period and it'd have pretty much the same effect and no one would one bat an eye.

In that way, it's very good in that it essentially nails the fundamentals of the style to be fairly indistinguishable. But it's fairly poor in that baroque pieces tend to be fairly bland, uncreative near cookie cutter crap. Though I will say it is slightly more melodic for a baroque piece which is good. It's a fitting piece, but it's not like hey this is a great song. It's more I like the sound of baroque and this hits my spots. Baroque was essentially the four on the floor EDM of the 17th century, except it took a bit of skill to actually play. While there are some pieces who are more elaborate they're generally hamstrung by the expectation to sound like every other generic piece. It's wonderful for the people who get hyper-philosophical about playing with one note different or changing the scale around a bit or the key. So yeah, you can mute the BGM throw on some Bach and it'd be like, well this is pretty much the same fucking thing.

Whereas, if you took a lot of earlier castlevania music there's not a lot you can replace it with at all that would get the same kind of effect and sound.

In the same way that Super Mario Brothers or Monkey Island have themes that are Calypso/Carribean in nature but don't really sound anything alike. Even Monkey Islands theme which one might say that's generic pirate has it's theme melody which is fairly striking and very distinguishable. That's really the difference of best to just good. When the music is identifiable that game. It's why SoR2's music is good and just doesn't fall by the wayside like so many of the actual songs of the genre they were inspired by.

>> No.1175094

>>1175079
I agree with the sentiment, but you're overstating the forgettability of the tracks. They aren't as "catchy" as 80s dance pop in the earlier games, but they aren't bland either.

Again, the intro text crawl theme, the Moonlight Nocturne, is a nice piece no matter how you look at it, varied harmonically and melodically, consistently introducing new yet related themes, transforming from fanfare to dance and back to fanfare, modulating logically yet constantly. Just look at it: it starts in d-minor, but ends up in D-flat-major, on a very dramatic note - just as the text ends up explaining that Castlevania appears out of the mist in front of a the searching heroine etc., and the "CASTLEVANIA" title appears on-screen. It's good.

Maybe the designer whose a racist jingoistic theistic bigoted creep knows a thing or two about designing an experience that speaks to indoctrinated individuals.

Mother 2 is also one of my favourites. To this day it's still super unique. On the outside there are a bunch of catchy poppy tunes, but then it gets to some really weird and dark places, which fits the game perfectly.

There's absolutely nothing "bigoted" about being against gay marriage, nor is theism necessarily a bad thing.

What's he hypocritical about?
>or are you referencing my post somehow expecting me to describe his actual attributes in a more caring way that gives his intolerance tolerance as if there was any reason to actually do that?
You can't claim to be tolerant and open while not tolerating intolerance. Everyone deep down is intolerant, TenNapel just happens to embody your personal taboos (Christfaggotry, pro traditional marriage, etc.) while having no pretense of being "tolerant" or "progressive."

All three of the soundtracks that came with Raiden DX were excellent.

Most other games I can remember with fantastic soundtracks are somewhat more recent though (Like Metal Slug 5). I tend to define a soundtrack by what percentage of the tracks I like, not by simply how many - this is why I wouldn't count say, Symphony of the Night as "up there" with Raiden DX, because frankly Symphony of the Night had some crap tracks (Especially in the Inverted Castle).
