Hey I want to install 50/60 Hz and language switches in my MD2, has anyone here done it? What guide did you follow? There's so many out there, all with slightly different techniques. I don't want any fancy shit, just the two switches.

Damomonster has the best modding tutorials for sega/nintendo consoles.

Only trouble is sourcing the timing crystal from a US genesis, the only ones on ebay are $20 and you can't just buy them separate, you have to buy in bulk.

Unless you are using SCART RGB, then you don't have to worry about the crystal.

Thanks, Eurofag here so I'll be using RGB.

OP here, I tried following these instructions partially as they used points on the top of the board: http://www.retrocorner.net/index.php?Mods_%2F_repairs:Megadrive_2_50%2F60_hz_switch_-_page2

However it turned out to be fucking bullshit as on my console the place where the blue wire goes on JP3 is ground, not +5V. Be warned!

At least since I had wired up two grounds to the switches instead of something more retarded I didn't cause any damage when I tried turning it on.

I don't know if the region switch works yet because the only game I have right now is Sonic 2 :( But at least I have glorious fullscreen 60 Hz

This is pretty embarrassing. I'm bad at drilling into plastic, and had no vice or something to hold the casing. Also I didn't have a big enough drill bit so used a Dremel-like thingy to bore out the holes, and one hole ended up being too big.

The console was in shit condition anyway. I might try and look for a non-working MD2 in good condition and do it again properly.

God knows, it's like someone smashed it open then superglued it back together badly.

I got the console and cartridge from a friend for free, as he had better condition duplicates of both (actually a JP Sonic 2 cart). Both were mostly non-working, but soldering the power connector back on and a lot of PCB cleaner on the cartridge and slot solved that.
