its top 3 of all time at worst (for me, its NES, ps1 and then SNES) but yet its constantly shit on here, you will see people unironically claiming the PCE or neo geo or fucking saturn was better, even though the SNES is loaded to the brim with classic, iconic games, and the saturn has literally zero, and is only remembered by sega fanboy hipsters. I chalk it up as a counter circlejerk since nintendo was obviously the king of the retro era, the same way sony dominated gen 5 and 6.

piece of shit wrongly designed (thanks nintendo) voltage regulation leading to the damn thing getting damaged just from using the oem power supply. any snes that has used an oem power supply for a significant amount of time ie 99% of them has weakened or already nonfunctional internals especially the chips. 3 years from now practically all snes's will be dead.

I like the NTSC hardware design. The games though, are trash. Here's a hot take: almost all of its best games are just lower fidelity prototypes for better N64 games. OoT is basically a telling of ALttP but superior in every conceivable way, same with Star Fox and SF64, Killer Instinct and KI Gold, DKC and Banjo-Kazooie, Pilot Wings vs PW64, F-Zero and X... on and on. I would take either an NES or N64 with 20 of my favorite games over a SNES with 100. Most of its library is very mundane and ugly as shit. I don't get the appeal.

I had a genesis growing up and so did all my friends and I've never played a SNES a single time in my life and I don't feel like I missed anything. I looked at all the "best of" lists and its all jrpgs and platformers.

I had all 4 gen 6 consoles growing up and the hours put into melee and animal crossing alone dwarf the other 3 combined. throw in the chao garden in sa2b, metroid prime, wind waker and sunshine, re4, pikmin 1 and 2... the cube won.
