Final Fantasy games are on the more gentle end of the JRPG difficulty spectrum so even a spastic who heeds the counsel of someone that says things like; "the dark souls of", and also decided to play the fuck-ugly mobile port in 2024, shouldn't have too much trouble.
Although you being able to pinpoint your position as the second to last dungeon despite it being a first playthrough, and who knows what other info you've garnered, has tainted the experience anyway and you really needn't have bothered.
Coincidentally, many people ruined Dark Souls for themselves the same way.

Generally RPG difficulty is this:
>If you're weak you grind more.
So, conversely, to make it difficult you don't grind to level up your team. II's scaling system is very exploitable to make the game easier. It's probably difficult with the right playstyle.

FFII is sort of an anti-grinding game like Saga where you do not get stats for just face rolling weak mobs, albeit less so and significantly altered in subsequent versions that do things like remove stat decreases and give guaranteed HP ups. Although there is things like magic levels taking fucking forever to raise and this does mean if you have the autistic need to max out everything it is grindier instead. But generally you can only get so strong in one area before your growth stagnates to almost nothing.

Save States are, in my opinion, cheating in games where RNG is important. I can't say the same for skill-based games where Save-State puts you right into the action. And save-states are broken for adventure games and text-based games that are kind of fun if you want to do everything in one go. But it breaks the challenge
