I love obscure or semi obscure horror games.

Vampire Hunter D is a fun action game, kinda like Devil May Cry before Devil May Cry but with slightly more survival horror elements.

Then you have Devilman, a game in which the first half is survival horror in which all you can do is run, and the 2nd half being a full action game. it's japanese only but you don't need to be able to moonspeak to beat the game.

Then there are first person survival horror games like The Note (only released in europe and japan, the european version is recommended becaus eit's more difficult) which feels like Shadow Tower; or ...Iru! (jap only) which feels like a mix between Clock Tower and Echo Night. For this last one though, if you can't moonspeak, there is ONE puzzle that's really hard. Took me several hours to figure it out. I can give the answer to it though.

Tales of Eternia (called Destiny II in the US), though admittedly if you're looking for a physical copy, fat chance finding one in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Also, as strange as it sounds, Hot Wheels Turbo Racing. Surprisingly well done for a game that would otherwise be borderline shovelware. Cool cars and tracks, lots to unlock, good mix of racing and stunts in a way that actually impacts performance, with a risk-vs-reward element. Good music as well, and that announcer for the game was awesome. Played pretty well too, at least as I recall.

A non obvious one, one I haven't seen it come up. Kingsley's Adventure. It's basically the playstations poor knock off of OoT. It was released in 1999 and feels like it had a bit of a constrained budget. But they implement it rather decently for a playstation game.

Is that actually worth something? I still have my Tales of Eternia jewel case with manual and everything. I love that game a lot but generally play it on my PSP nowadays. Might actually be one of the only Tales game I've enjoyed aswell, next to Phantasia.

>> No.1150606

>>1150559
If it's complete and in good or better condition, yes. Being a fan of the series to point I prefer to actually buy the games (though lack of ability to emulate at the time certainly helped), I got a copy a while back for $90, complete and in nearly mint condition (had wanted it due to playing the series through on co-op, and the game did not disappoint my friend or I in the slightest and it still holds up quite well, so no regrets there). The guy selling it actually wanted $110 initially, but due to it being around Christmas and me both showing interest in the item and being polite in asking questions, he knocked the price down somewhat.

Again, it all just depends on the condition and if you can find a buyer willing to pay. Quite frankly I love the series, both the older games and newer ones (disregarding the ones that are /vr/ related for a few seconds), albeit for somewhat different reasons. Just don't charge a fucking ridiculous amount. There's enough scalpers around for everyone to hate these days, and what with not everyone being able to emulate, be it due to a lack of a good computer or whatnot, the game not having a PSN version because Namco gonna Namco, and the physical PSP version being a rather expensive import from Europe, more people ought to be able to play the game. Especially since it didn't do too well during it's initial run out here on account of the usual no marketing think Namco's done clear up until Xillia (with Symphonia being an exception, as it was marketed by Nintendo too a rather good success, at least for the series in terms of sales), and as such I don't think a lot of people have played it compared to some of the other titles.

>> No.1150646

>>1150606

Thanks a lot for the information, my copy is indeed in perfect (well, near-perfect, the case is ever so slightly chipped) condition. I'll likely keep an eye out for buyers every now and again but won't break my back to sell it.

One of my most enjoyable runs of the game was playing through and solely controlling Keele, made the game quite tough. Well, tough in a fun way, I find the hardest difficulty mode to be awfully boring, the better AI is great, the bigger numbers are not.

Nonetheless if you ever find yourself in a position to play a co-op run I'd recommend both controlling mages, it really changes how the game feels.

Might consider doing that, as my friend and I played Farah and Reid respectively during our co-op run-through. How's the AI for the melee characters generally? I didn't have much trouble with Meredy or Keele's AI (or at the very least once I actually noticed that raising the attack slider didn't increase the frequency of offensive artes, but rather Keele wanting to run in and whack the enemy with his staff) but I am curious as to how it handles for Reid and Farah.
>Watch youtube video of someone fighting Sekundes some time after beating the game.
>Dude plays Keele, uses the speed cast button input system,
>Spams Fireball the whole fight.
>Due to the amount of Fireballs with each cast, and the speed he was casting it, Sekundes is nearly always staggered, something you really can't pull off easily playing as Reid or Farah due to the boss in question.
>This actually lets Meredy cast the good spells uninterrupted, and prevents Reid and Farah from taking too much of a beating.
>Guy playing remarks in the video description his hands hurt like fucking hell after mashing the inputs to speed cast.
Friend and I gained a lot of respect for Keele and his Fireballs that day. Really not that bad a mage (at least for that point in the series) once you get the hang of his strategy settings. Again, still impressed by how fluidly the game still plays to this day, around thirteen years after it first debuted in Japan, and how much shit can be flying around the screen at once with little to no lag on the screen. Compare to previous titles like Destiny, which could feel rather clunky (shame the remake never made it over and the PS2 is region locked, as it did a lot to improve the flow of combat, in addition to other things) in comparison, as well Phantasia PSX, which was less clunky melee wise than Destiny (due to using a modified Destiny engine), but still featured the whole "spells-freeze-combat-for-the-duration" thing, though I know some people hold preference to that.

You'll find them adequate for general battle but you'll really notice the difference for bosses. I had a way of casting when Reid was retreating and fell into this kind of rhythm, it was quite wonderful actually I really did have to improve on that simple concept and tighten the timing as the game went on and bosses did more stuff.

Restricting skills from being used so that certain ones can be learned quicker is vital aswell, the last thing you want is to have an inadequate list of skills when boss time comes up.

Hope you have fun.

The controls are kinda shitty and it gets repetitive near the end, but otherwise it's very atmospheric and surprisingly good at mixing stealth and puzzle solving with resident evil style mechanics. Never really see this game get mentioned much, despite it being a grade-A Konami game. Pretty challenging and has a vaguely horror plot, too. You can kill the NPC's in the main hub village, if you feel like being a dick, although it's imperative you get tips from some of them in order to progress in the story. Can play as either the samurai dude or the ninja girl. Feels like a PSX-era Onimusha, except more action-y and less puzzle-y.
