best game of all time?

>> No.1146569

of course not you silly little troll

>> No.1146571

I wouldn't go THAT far, but it is definitely one of the best games of all time, and it's definitely in my personal top 5.

>> No.1146586

first one was better already so i don't know what crazy shit's going through your head

>> No.1146591

you are technically wrong. 1st one did not have variety of level design

>> No.1146635

Anniversary, Legends and Underworld are better.

There is no 'best game', only 'good game' and 'bad game'.
And that game is a 'good game'.

It actually is my favorite PS1 game. The atmosphere and variety were terrific.

>> No.1148991

No.

Fine game nethertheless.

As a kid, I was obsessed with Titanic for whatever reason. Imagine my pleasure when I reached the ship wrecks. And it was real nice the levels were long and huge.

They don't make levels like these anymore. I'm play RE:Rev and I like the shit out of it, but even TR2 had more atmosphere in the same type of setting.

I never got past the first level as a kid. I bought all TR games when they were on sale, but my backlog is so huge it's gonna be a while..

Don't redirect him to /v/. It's already bad as it is.

I wish there was a board also like /vr/ but for PS2 era, maybe also modern shit but with leveled conversation and none of this:

I recently played a TR marathon and finished every single tr game in succession. TR 2 is still by far the best in the series. angel of darknes being the worst

>>1146558
It's the best Tomb Raider game and a great PSX game, but the difficulty is way too unbalanced at points and gunfights do too little damage to the enemies and too much to you. It's very obvious in the Tibet levels.

>> No.1150536

>>1150463
Shit, son. Why you no Chrono Cross?
Also, best PSX game was Crash Bandicoot 1.(I know the truth hurts, but think about it and it will make sense)

Can /vr/ agree that TR1 shits all over Anniversary even if it incorrectly believes TR2 to be the superior to TR1?

>> No.1150718

>>1150537
Guardian of Light is technically a "Lara Croft" game not a "Tomb Raider" game. They were careful with their branding on that one.

>> No.1150759

Actually, i didnt play GoL, also didnt touch the mobile games or handheld ones. I played TR1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and the new ones made by crystal dynamics. also played all of the PC exclusive add-ons like unfinished bussines, golden mask and lost artifact

>> No.1150779

>>1150662
Not really. Apart from the annoying checkpoints and occasional QTEs, Anniversary is a well designed platformer. I actually prefer anniversary because of how smooth and fast the platforming is, even if the exploration aspect of the original got gimped.

>> No.1150918

Started 4 recently, back in the day 3 put me off so much I never bothered when 4 came out. But I should have, so far it's awesome, it has such a TR1 flavor.

>> No.1150923

>>1150662
Anniversary somehow had worse controls than the original, and that's saying something.

>> No.1150986

>>1150779
But it totally neutered the atmosphere, ruined the boss fights and had that shitty Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider gameplay.
I think Anniversary defenders boil down to 'muh graffix'.

>> No.1151008

>>1150986
The bossfights in the original weren't that great. The big bosses were visually impressive, but uninteresting to fight and the human ones were just kinda there, though it's a shame that they were basically completely removed. I like the improved graphics, but I think the levels are still very good too. The landmark levels like lost valley and francis' folly are still impressive and the egypt levels are legitimately improved because of the more varied platforming and faster traps.

Oh shit, imageswap! Pic-related is the real image.

I wonder who out there got my image... unless we both just got this.

>> No.1151075

I actually think Anniversary is superior and that's why I'd like a similar remake for 2. Classic TR isn't exactly famous for having good combat or controls. It's the exploration and adventure that captivates fans I think. In the least it's what it does to me. Otherwise you would have seen SOME improvement until 5, 6 and even after that still relied on auto-lock.
Anniversary made the environments more beautiful and atmospheric.

Legends is IMO the worst game since it relies so much on action and action isn't exactly TR's forte and level design is too linear and repetitive. Even AoD had Lara going into deep shit despite all the bugs it was filled with.

>> No.1151085

>>1151075
Lol, fuck off kid, it sucked the atmosphere clean out of the game. TR1 was dark and moody and the combat and controls had a sort of survival horror feel to them with the limited health packs and ammunition for non dual pistols. I'd take the functional tank controls of TR over the stupid hold lock on and shoot and do a hundred side flips bullshit of the CD games. Just absolutely terrible modernised gameplay with shitty Uncharted tier platforming.

>> No.1151094

>>1151085
>had a sort of survival horror feel to them with the limited health packs and ammunition for non dual pistols
You could collect enough medpacks to build a house out of, and ammo was never lacking. TR1 is one of the easiest tomb raider games. Also combat in anniversary was better than in the original. It was easier, but more involved and a touch less repetitive.

I mean, the original was also about holding the shoot button and doing a hundred back and side flips. You're getting upset about it without having a rational reason.

In a more direct way, I felt fully in control of old Lara, new lara is just watching a bunch of boring animations and waiting for the animal or guy to die it's soulless, absolutely soulless, I weep for the people that prefer Anniversary, they deserve only pity.

I'm not saying TR combat was ever good, I'm saying TR:A is the shittier of 2 shits.

Yet you had less moves at your disposal and no choice except to aim when your guns were out, and the turning speed was faster and more erratic than when your guns weren't drawn.

>I weep for the people that prefer Anniversary, they deserve only pity.
Being dramatic about it doesn't make your argument less insubstantial.

>> No.1151119

>>1151113
Tank controls and grid jumping provided a challenge, the auto aim was only so as not to make the game impossible and you had to be facing the enemy and it wasnt hold down lock on to win which is even boring and shittier than the shitty TR1 combat. The thing is TR:A could have excellent combat and still not touch TR1 with its shit non atmosphere.

>> No.1151141

>>1151119
>with its shit non atmosphere.
I'd disagree about that too. Seeing the lost valley rendered with a reasonable draw distance is impressive in its own way, though I think the black void of the original still has its charms. And the smaller levels like qualopec's tomb are a lot more atmospheric thanks to the added graphical detail.
I get the feeling that you either just really want to hate the game or haven't played it for more than a few minutes.
