Can we have a Shinobi thread?

Been playing G.G. Shinobi via 3DS recently. Great game. The second one is awesome, also. I wish Sega wouldn't neglect the series. The recent 3DS Shinobi is interesting and has some good elements, but a lot of the level design is sloppy and the graphics are fairly ugly.

all classic shinobi games have both looked and played really off for me somehow. I cannot get into Shinobi 3 at all because it feels like I'm playing some kind of weird knockoff of a better game

I like Revenge for nostalgia purposes though, it was one of my first console games

Yes, it is. Gameplay is easy and very satisfactory. There are some very hard parts, but they are not unfair like the Genesis games. It was very low-rated at the time, but don't let the critics to decide it for you. It's an awesome game.

For some reason, Cyber Shinobi for SMS is one of my favourites. Also, Super Shinobi 2 and Legions are excellent.

I'm a big Ninja Gaiden and Strider fan since childhood and although I knew the Shinobi games existed and I had a Genesis never played one until earlier this year. I played Revenge, 3 and Shadow Dancer in that order and I really liked the first two. SD seemed more like a 'prototype'-game and more arcadey.
Also played Shinobi on ps2 and it is probably my favorite, but I feel it wasn't as polished as it could be and a little rushed in some aspects. Oh, and it is hard, like, control-throwing hard.

That said, I couldn't beat any of them, I stopped playing when I reached the last stage in each of them.

Finally these games have some of the best soundtracks I've heard on a long time.

I barely play video games these days, but the original Shinobi kept me up all night trying to 1cc it. I didn't beat it, but it was the most fun I had playing vidya in a long time.

Yes, there was a shitty GBA Shinobi, it was called Revenge of Shinobi (thus committing blasphemy), which just illustrates how stupid Sega are; they could have simply ported the real Revenge of Shinobi to GBA at much cheaper cost and made much more money.

No source code, so they basically tried to recreate the game.

And then one hacker came along, reverse-engineered the original ROM and ported the disassembly the GBA.

It was more likely the legal reasons; Revenge of Shinobi had to have ALOT of sprite changes due to so many references to movie and comic characters (famously Godzilla, Spiderman, Batman, Terminator, Hulk, Rambo, etc), its the reason Shinobi 3 is more commonly found in MD/Genesis compilations and re-releases.

I've played it, but I suck at it. The platforming in the last few stages is fucking ridiculous. Combat is great though, I love the blocking and parrying system.
