Unreal Tournament. Both it and the original Unreal had a SHIT TON of mods. For instance my UT99 installation is 15.4GB, base size is 550MB.

Wasn't Half-Life a Quake Mod?

>> No.1143391

>>1143347

that crap is the reason why we have RAGE

all anyone ever wanted was an actual sequel to doom 1+2, and id software has yet to deliver

the best mod I ever played for quake 1 was future vs fantasy, the classes were actually developed and had unique weapons, unlike the comparitively derivative TF

I was sad that TF became popular, but I guess it was because it was so simple. These days none of those games have competitive communities, and for single player you're always better off with doom

always

Hmm no.
Half-Life runs on goldsrc which was(or so I read) a heavily modified quake engine, but it was still developed as a retail game by Valve so it wouldn't count as a mod.
They still say it's very similar to Quake engine though.

Half-Life uses a heavily modified Quake engine called Goldsrc. They used a commercial license.
Then, they wrote their own engine (Source) from scratch.

B-but I liked Rage...

What was the modified Quake 3 engine CoD was using up until the most recent game?

It was pretty nuts to hear that Quake 3's engine had lasted in some form for so long and had been so popular.

And then, the Idtech 4, that nobody use...

>> No.1143628

Fun fact: The current version of Source still contains elements of the original QW code, making Quake engine the longest-lived game engine ever made.

deus ex. but i got sick of it hanging on me because sound glitch and no old skool voodoo rig.

http://www.gamefront.com/top-10-best-deus-ex-mods/2/

i recommend the shifter mod if you want it be more RPG-ish, but it unbalances the skill system. the nameless mod is also well-loved but never played it.

>>1144240

I love Shifter, it's a must-have for me playing Deus Ex over these days.

I wish the unique weapons had unique models or something like that, though.

Super Mario World has TONS of mods[ROMhacks]

>> No.1146512

Quake 1 has the best mods if you dig deep. The community is nuts (inside3d.com). 3d beat em up RPGs with air combos, driving games, and other assorted crazy shit.

>> No.1146526

Only partly /vr/, but I feel I should mention The Elder Scrolls.

Team Fortress was a Quake mod.
