Are there games that give you high level of stress from how difficult they are, and even more so after you've beat it once and now reluctant to replay? Knowing that maybe last time you did it by pure luck and might be unable to do it again.

1943 for NES is okay game and I certainly like it but last couple of levels are crazy shit

1943, Adventure Island and Kung Fu Heroes are the 3 hardest NES games I've beaten

and while the later 2 was definitely 100% skill and hyper focus, luck most likely played in part in beating 1943 indeed.

No, I play games to have fun instead of to prove something so if I'm not having fun I just stop playing it.

If you're playing a game that's difficult and frustrating even when you beat it, then you're not enjoying it. You're just tolerating it.
And if you're hesitating to play it again, then it's just not a fun game at all. A good game makes you enjoy playing through it. A bad game makes you feel relieved when it's finally over.
I'd rather play through a game multiple times in a month, than take an entire month of toil to beat a difficult game that I'll never want to play again.

In Soviet Russia the game beats you

Especially when the pirate cart triggers the anti piracy measures

Does Batman (I assume it's Returns) do that? What changes? Konami games usually had that logo check on startup, if it's not there then welcome to hard mode. Hope you'll enjoy our stay.

I just finished Alien 3 on NES for the second time, and while I'd say that music, aesthetics and overall experience were enjoyable to me enough, I don't think I will return to the game in the near future. It's just 50/50, leans to good sometimes but more of an shitty diarrhea balls most of the time. Earns my respect to degree.

Yeah Batman Returns NES has some of the most nasty anti piracy measures: double damage, unwinnable stage, handing out incorrect passwords
