Hey /vr/ not sure how this board feels about emulators but I just downloaded one for the original Playstation.

My question is what were/are the best games to be played on this system? I already played me some Crash Bandicoot and had some nostalgia based feels.

ITT OP wants to know what are some must play PS1 classics that he can play on an emulator.

>> No.1140684

Also do you guys have a chart or essential list I can use?

Thanks.

>> No.1140687

Bump not sure how fast this board is.

>> No.1140692

If anyone does have an essentials chart for the PS1 that would be great.

I never really played this system as a kid I mostly just played the N64.

Please respond /vr/...

Lurk before you post, you retard.

>> No.1140703

I had a PS1 growing up, and I'd recommend the two Oddworld games for it, they're like platforming puzzle games with a good atmosphere. Of course, they made PC versions of those so there's no need to play it on the emulator.

I just played Silent Hill for the first time on my own emulator (only game I've used it for), and thought it was pretty easy to play with a keyboard. The game itself was good too (much better than Silent Hill 2, I thought).

Be sure to avoid ePSXe or pSXfin unless you opperate a toaster.

Would be great to hear about your taste. Anyway, here are some of my favorites:

Resident Evil 1, 2 & 3
Silent Hill
Dino Crisis
Final Fantasy 7 & 9
Gran Turismo 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Mega Man X4
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
R-Type Delta
Gradius Gaiden
Breath of FIre III
Wild Arms
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Tenchu
Metal Gear Solid
Alundra

This is relevant to my interests.

I'm running PCSX on my Macbook... It emulated Symphony of the Night fine, but I've been trying to get both Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII running with no luck.

Do I need to get a BIOS or something for PSCX to run these games? Any ideas where to download that?

OP here hopefully this thread isn't dead. I was testing some games on the emulator. I use PCSX it's the only emulator that works so far.

Sound is a bit glitchy but the games are easy to play on a keyboard.

Thanks just what I'm looking for.

>> No.1140946

OP here I downloaded PCSX and so far it works fine on windows 7 (even though it's for mac).

The games I got so far and worked are

>Crash Bandicoot
>Crash Bandicoot 2
>Silent Hill
>MedEvil
>Tekken 2
>Spyro 2

Only problem I've found is that the sound when characters speak has some static but other than that the games run fine.

Any other sites besides coolrom to download games from?

There are various rom sites you can find, but I've always felt that coolrom was one of the more reliable and stable sites.

If you're looking for something specific, try "metasearch.torrentproject.com." Obviously it'll be in torrent form, but it's pretty wide-reaching so you can usually find whatever you're looking for.

>> No.1140979

Thanks anon. Coolrom was the first site I used when I started emulation gaming. It's the only one I've found so far that has working roms. The other sites sometimes don't have roms that work or they don't have a large enough selection.

>> No.1140994

>>1140979

Np, anon.

It's good to check lesser known sites every so often for rarer games - but by and large, more well-known sites will have what you need.

Oh, and "emuparadise.me" is a pretty good site too, although they've gotten pretty happy with ads and such lately. Look under "ROMs, ISOs, & Games"

i remember many ps1 games came with multiple disc, and you'd have to switch to another at some point to keep playing. does this same system continue to exist for emulators?

>> No.1141298 [DELETED]

>>1141072
Yup. You can easily switch discs in emulators though. Whenever the game prompts the switch, just go to File> open> [game]. You probably already knew that.

>> No.1141307

>>1141072

Yup. You can easily switch discs in emulators though. Whenever the game prompts the switch, just open the next disc the usual way you would open a disc in the emulator of your choice. In pcsx just hit ESC to get to the menu. You probably know all that

Quick list of games I personally like. Stars next to ones that I find to be less common and a bit more unknown or simply not talked about.

Metal Gear Solid
Medieval
Tenchu 2
Guilty Gear
Bust a Groove
UmJammer Lammy
Parappa the Rapper
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Fear Effect*
Guilty Gear
Tekken 2
Bust a Move 99
Tomba!
Gran Turismo 2
Vigilante 8 (and Second Offense)
Wild Arms 1 and 2
Final Fantasy IX
Syphon Filter 2 and 3 (1 is kind of weak but also playable)
Rollcage*
Ogre Battle
Metal Slug X
Trap Gunner*
Bushido
Brave Fencer Musashi
Ape Escape

I'm not sure I'd call most of these "must play" but I find them enjoyable still today.

Strider 2. It's a short game and it has unlimited continues, so you will plow through it very quickly. But if you like arcade games that you replay for high score, then it's a must play.
