also: use the KGB editor to make your own players/teams.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/kengriffeyjrpresentsmlbeditor/

it's pretty fucking based, these arcade style baseball games a perfect blend of realism and fun. and they go so much quicker. i'm a HUGE fan of the all-star baseball series, particularly 2002 and 2003 (all star baseball 2003 is hands down of the absolute best baseball games ever), but even 2x animation speed on (which is an option in ASB 03, not even a cheat code), i can still play 3 games of ken griffey snes to 1 game on gamecube. it just takes so much longer.

tons of 1 pitch ab's in ken griffey, both on offense and defense. i absolutely sell the fuck out for first pitch heaters, and if i get one with the 2023 braves lineup, i do serious damage.

i haven't scored less than 15 runs in a single game (and yes sometimes i use exploits like squeeze plays almost always working, etc)

so yeah like i said here >>11390306
ken griffey snes is really the goat. it fun to play completely as is, but it's even funnier if you know the real players the guys are supposed to be (their numbers, appearance, and stats are all there), not to mention all the jokes with the names of the fake players.

the playstyle is fun, quick to learn, i would say most people struggle with fielding the most, but i would say almost every baseball since has someone made fielding even worse so. yeah.

for one that hasn't been mentioned, i will go with All Star Baseball 2003. it's got a ton of features, including an expansion mode which allows you to bring an MLB team to good number of cities that don't have one (including OKC, my particular city). you brand the team, then do a redraft. then you are free to trade or pick up free agents.

however, i personally just made the (mostly) current day braves entire time with the like 30 create a player slots they give you or whatever. it's a fuckton.

AND, i even wrote a code to give me extra stat points so i can make broken players. when you finish create a player mode, it gives you a 162 simulated season statline for your player.

i autistically created the braves player by player until their statlines in game from create a player matched their real in world stats. so i feel like i made them. however, to match Acuna's mvp year numbers, i had to literally break the game and give myself extra stat points.

i like to hack old games. i should make videos about all this shit.

Played this with my friend last month and had a blast, found out there's a CD version that has additional animations and CD quality music so gonna play that with him next time he's around.

While testing it out this also happened which was quite funny.

Unironically one of the funniest games I’ve played. The commentary was the best part, that and my brother and I would mash buttons during the loading screen to activate random cheats.

Gets called a loser hobby all the time, why does have to be fun then. Maybe women hate men having fun or something, never understand why they guilt trip for this stuff. I think they hate poor people and they associate this with that

ps3 the show was fun but I guess that's not retro. It's on ps2 also

It's fine, lads! I got it working on my RG353P, all I had to do was, like was said, run it with 9x with no other modifications. I'm doing a short season with the Mets and getting run over, I've gone 3 games straight losses. I guess that's what I get for picking them Mets.

>Ken Griffey Jr Presents MLB - The NHL 94 of Baseball games.
>MVP Baseball 2005 - EA's last MLB title and their best.
>MLB Power Pros - Probably the best single player mode in any Baseball game and an utter joy to play, sadly these are the only Konami baseball games to come to the west.
>MLB Slugfest series - Much like Midway's other sports titles it's a blast full of arcade mayhem, excels in multiplayer but single player is still excellent.
>World Series Baseball 98 - Sega's take on the sport offers some of the best batting you'll find in any game.
>Baseball Stars 2 - A damn good baseball game and the best pick up and play style game in my opinion.
>Backyard Baseball 97 or 01 - PC classics by the masters of youth adventure titles Humongous Entertainment, fun for all ages.

I used to be obsessed with baseball as a kid. This is the GOAT baseball game, I spent an entire summer and a complete set of that season's baseball cards editing the names of the fake players to their real-life counterparts.
Going further back Little League Baseball on NES and Super Baseball 2020 are also great, and World Series on Genesis is the prettiest game on the system by far, also Sports Talk Baseball on Genesis is also pretty good.

Can I learn the sport of baseball from any retro video game? Watching actual games is super confusing and me being a yuropoor I didn't jsut grow up with the sport. I have all the retro systems worth owning.

>> No.11398676

>>11398573
Kinda you'll obviously be missing the nuance and meta game within the game, and fielding (defense) and base running are non existent in early game but the general rule set and stat tracking is replicated well as early as the NES.
But if you want an in depth retro simulation of baseball you got to go on PC.

>> No.11398696

Nobody ever mentions these games but I’ve played damn near all of the retro baseball games and I think the Super Famista aka Family Stadium series for the SFC are the best. I like Super Famista 3 personally. It’s the RBI baseball style games fully realized. I imagine most people who’ve tried the roms gave up since most of the text is in Nip but it’s not that hard to figure out. Bad News Baseball for NES is also way under appreciated. Griffey Jr is the king of the arcade style ones of course. I never post anymore because of the 900 second wait but I wanted to spread the Famista gospel

use the kgbeditor to edit player stats. i tried going over 10, but it def breaks the game. i gave ozuna from da braves a 12 power stat just to see what happens. using save states i was unable to hit a ball past the pitcher after like 50 swings.

if you gave everyone 10 power and 10 contact you would score 30 runs a game, maybe more.

i am averaging 3-4 hr's per game with my braves lineup, and its not 'broken', i just use their real stats.

the dh being on all time really changes the game.
