I am an ESL and I grew up with Genesis. While I always liked SNES more, Genesis holds a special place in my heart. Had EWJ2, Sonic 3D Blast, Golden Axe 3 and a lot of other games I had fun with. Even had that Mario bootleg for it. Sonic 2/3&K is probably one if the reasons I got into retro gaming, few games come close to this.
Years later beat Phantasy Star 2 and loved it. Hope I'll get to playing Shining Force 2 one day. Funny how people say "SNES was the RPG platform", yet the few Genesis RPGs hold up extremely well, arguably on par with SNES

I love how the music on the console sound graduated from beeps and boops of 8-bit boxes but not so far advanced that it's imitating real instruments. The music sounds like it's own thing, much like how the NES sounds like it's own unique instrument. Makes the games have their own distinct identity. The Genesis sound is a real thing.
