>swimming levels

Why do these exist? They are not fun, they have lame controls, they take away the best assets of the game, they are slow...they just suck.

marios swimming levels play very differently depending on your power up

if you are fire flower mario you stay high up on the waves so you can snipe the enemies with a fire flower the moment they spawn. It takes some skill to work with the arc but once you do the water levels become very fun

basic mario gets a free pass and can avoid 80% of the enemies just by running on the surface of the water

super mario can't really fight back and needs to make a made dash through the level hoping he can get a fire flower before he gets bitten. Sometimes you need to stop to trick gooper ai into going backwards though

its a much different experience than the land level and is pretty fun

Tomb Raider '96 did great water. Just diving into the pool in Lara's manor, and dicking around, was cool.
It controlled better underwater than SM64, and Cistern was a much better designed water level than OoT's Water Temple.

I forget why, but I always sent the closest to dead turtle in, got all but one bomb, then sent a fresh one in to grab the awkwardly placed bomb, and complete the stage, then start the next area, go to the kidnap point and rescue a new full health turtle.

I remember it being a good plan as a kid, but I've not gone back to this game in years.

I had TMNT 1 as a kid. I played it over and over again. To this day, through that practice, I can play the Hudson with minimal damage. It isn't that hard with practice.
The Technodrome level and the level previous is a million times worse, especially since the entrance to the Technodrome is randomized.

Also, fuck this scene. As a kid, I always thought there must be a way to get that pizza.
