>Awful font
>Strange mishmash of the originals and the later ports
>Built-in game genie to avoid random encounters (why?)
>New character sprites that look like RPG Maker but enemy sprites are still the same
>Weirdly choppy and stuttery, performs less well than the originals on original hardware
>75 fucking dollars
Is Square Enix the stupidest AAA company? How do you fuck up something this simple? They should have gone whole hog and made the games look like Octopath / Live A Live. I have no idea why anyone would ever buy this because you are literally just buying inferior versions of the original games. The only appeal is wide-screen and that's it.

But anon these are pixel remasters. Remasters are good. Discerning consumers love and appreciate remasters. It's great how they remastered every pixel, leaving barely if any pixel unremastered. They went to the original pixel masters and they said "these masters are no good pixelwise let's get new better masters". Boy was it remasterful. Do masterlets really fail to get how perfectly remastered the pixels are? Meaning they're better pixels now, due to the remastering?

>Built-in game genie to avoid random encounters (why?)

The new generation hates random encounters, they also hate turned based gameplay. They think the games don't respect their precious time, which they obviously have less of than the people who played the games before them since society forces them to be on social media 6 hours a day.
But they still *need* to play the old FF games because they think it's part of their Gamer Canon. This version is made for them.

Because random encounters are fucking annoying when you're trying to backtrack because you accidentally went the right way first.
It's genuinely such a huge quality of life OPTION that you still probably wouldn't want to keep turned off at all times because of the passive EXP and AP you get.

This single QoL feature made FF combat and random encounters fun for me.

I'll never understand this either desu. I'd rather play games in the original aspect. I don't care if it doesn't utilize every inch of my monitor.

>you accidentally went the right way first.
If you went the right way first, you keep going, since it's the right way. Any treasure you missed out on are there as rewards if you accidentally went the wrong way.

I don't want to miss out on strong gear or weapons or items that'd make the game easier when there's a fork in the road.
I always go back when I know I went the right way first and I know that a lot of people do the same. QoL making this less annoying is good.

I took the plunge on a sale for the Switch. Are the performance issues on other platforms as well? Pretty inexcusable for something like this.
I think the sprites look fine and a LOT better than other recent remasters.
I didn't hate my experience with these but the only one of these I would consider an unambiguous improvement is III.

I was going to laugh at you until your last line. You're right. These games suck but for some reason people feel the need to play them anyway.

The PSP and Mobie versions look like those old Windows 3.1 "games" you'd play during a workbreak

dont you know muh black bars make a game literally UNPLAYABLE?!! also playing it on anything other than crt makes it not a real game. also if its not 60 fps, not a real game. anyone who has fun playing a game under these conditions are just deluding themselves

It is absolutely wild. The games are literally interactive menus but your cursor doesn't scroll instantly and smoothly through the menu options. People who recommend these are out of their minds.

Maybe don't play it on inferior hardware like the Switch then.
I don't any issues with either of the Pixel Remasters on PC or Steam deck.

There's no reason to buy something like this on a platform other than Switch. I don't really like playing JRPGs on PC, but when I do, I just use an emulator like any normal person. Last time I checked, Switched is orders of magnitude more powerful than a Super Nintendo.

yea but it's not a SNES game, it's a remake in Unity engine.

as someone who was here with the PRs since day one and was in on its modding scene, no, none of us have any idea why the fuck the Four Fiend statues/busts and the like are just inexplicably missing in this version.
or you know, ALL THE ENEMY SCRIPTING, every single action enemies take is 100% random now in this version, so Warmech could flee on turn one, or Chaos may heal himself repeatedly instead of looping his attack list.
