Try hwtest on your card. It'll tell you if its counterfeit or damaged.
Probably unrelated, but I reflashed my SD once for updating Crossmix for my TSP and it just wouldn't boot anymore with the card plugged in. Turns out I had to completely purge the SD (as in, zero out every single byte, which took more than an hour) before flashing.
Not sure how you can do this on windows.

To anyone that has both RP4P and Odin 2 Mini or just the Odin 2 Mini, how is the O2M? I have the RP4P but suddenly today I was struck with the notion that I might need more. There are like 5 PS2 and GC games that don't play well on the RP4P and extended time with 6th gen and up warms the system pretty quickly sometimes. It's a really flimsy reason for an upgrade so I'm trying to talk myself out of it. As for why a Mini and not a normal 2, I prefer more pocketable systems.

Its hard for me to reccomend if you already own something like an RP4P though. You are getting a cpu that can conquer dolphin and aethersx2 but for $350+ you aren't getting a whole lot of new functionality unless you are a devout vita enjoyer and can appreciate the novelty of a near-faithfully recreated vita with steroid specs

>> No.11186969

I should add that the display does have some uniformity issues. The vignetting is obviously real and the backlight under ~50% brightness gets uneven and at really low brightness I'd even say it doesn't look good.
On the flip side, the screen has a contrast ratio almost as good as it can get without being oled, so 4:3 games with black bars look good because there is no backlight bleed on those bars. Also since its not oled there's no need to stress about burning in UI from games

As someone who uses a smartphone and a cheap telescopic controller as my setup, I'd say people do it for a few reasons. A lot of them don't have an older smartphone laying around to turn into a handheld exclusively, and often they don't want their smartphone to also be their handheld, for the sake of the battery, and also to separate the device that's for work, and one that's for playing.

Also, not everyone has a beast smartphone, and often these have aspect ratios way wider than a 16:9 screen, so you get a lot of negative space. I like my setup, but dedicated handhelds are fun.

I love my RG35XX, but am hyper-critical of the RG Nano being the shittiest nano handheld on the market (and it's literally just a worse FunkeyS without the novelty of the FunkeyS, being a teeny GBA SP). And Anbernic is really really mad that my RG35XX suffices and I haven't felt any need to buy any of its four re-iterations.
I still plan to buy an RG28XX tho, that shit looks fantastic for GBA without all the issues of an actual GBAmicro. I would totally be interested in an inbetween of the RG Nano and RG28XX, with the RG28XX's proportions and hardware but in a vertical shape.

Help me anon

Im very very on the fence on a device.

I want something to play during commute, travels or waiting time. I want to get off myself from constant degeneracy of social media on my phone and just escape with retro vidya.

I wont have time to play all of the games, but because I'm missing out so much on old console games (too poor for a ps2 or GC at one point of time) that i’m looking at higher specs. (retroid pocket 4 pro, rg cube, 405v, ayaneo, Powkiddy x28) also i can have all the games below the switch since i already own one.

At the same time due to foreseeing i will have very minimal usage, i was thinking of a cheaper devices too. (35xxsp, miyoo mini or 40xxv).

Any suggestions?

The best choice is the RP4P
- keep away from anbernic, their qc is shit, they release too much device compared to their resources so don't expect any issue to be resolved if it's not the latest.device (dont think about support but actual design problems)
They can't even solve their charging issues for years, not mentioning recent teardowns shown that they forgo literal sub 1$ parts in their charging circuits responsible for safety, if you are unlucky the device draws more power from chargers that it is capable of handling and the end result is nasty. Also they pay reviewers and reddit mods, so every review have to be taken with a pinch of salt or more
- Ayaneo is reputable, they are recommended but they command a high price of course.
- Retroid also great, don't rush shit out, their prices are good. You may want to look at the new RPMini, as it will be qualcomm SoC, it will have less compatibility issues with the emulators, itf it's not your taste, go for the RP4P
Keep in mind, PS2 is a bitch, there are titles (nascar games for example) which play shit on even an odin 2, best to look at gameplays on youtube to see if the RP4P perf will be enough for you

>The CC sense circuit can't tell the difference between an e-marked USB C cable and a device that needs power (like a gamepad). Usually a USB C port can tell when a device that needs power is connected, because the device pulls one of the CC pins low with a 5.1K resistor. An e-marked cable actually does something very similar, but it does it with a 1K resistor, resulting in a lower voltage. Usually, you can distinguish between the two by measuring the voltage on the CC pins directly. Both of these situations will turn off transistor Q1, leaving the CC_sense line high. The circuit isn't actually measuring the voltage, so it can't tell the difference.

>It's this second issue that's the potentially dangerous one: if you plug an e-marked USB C<->C cable into the RG35XX Plus, it detects this as an external device being plugged in, and happily supplies 5V to the USB C port. Critically, it does this even if there is a charger on the other end of that cable - something a USB device absolutely should not do. What happens next can vary a fair bit depending on how accurately the RG35XX Plus and the charger actually define 5V, and how the circuitry is designed. In some cases, nothing happens - the charger wonders why on earth it's being fed 5V, and either just sits there, or turns off. In other cases the two 5V supplies "fight", and high current can wind up flowing through components that were never intended to handle it. Usually this means they heat up, sometimes to the point of failure. There have been reports of some chargers completely destroying some Anbernic devices - I'd now say odds are pretty good that this process is what happened to them.

>> No.11192574

>>11192573
>So - how to we avoid this happening to our devices? Well - don't use e-marked USB C<->C cables. I don't think this problem should ever be present in chargers that have a USB C cable tethered to them (permanently attached), but don't know enough about their implementation to be sure. Instead, my advice would be to avoid the chance of the RG35XX Plus thinking your charger is device to be powered entirely, and always use a USB A<->C cable. USB A ports physically don't have the CC pins, and so a USB A<->C cable usually has a built in pullup resistor to tell the USB C end that it can supply power. They definitely don't have a pulldown resistor like the e-marked C<->C cables though, which is what the RG35XX Plus misinterprets as a device.

https://old.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/1f1iun2/an_explanation_of_the_usb_c_charging_issues_on/

So yeah, never let these unattended or charging overnight, never trust specs to be respected and stick to low power bricks and USB A to C.

The poor people are using android argument was never valid in the last 10 years at minimum for multiple reasons.
Actually that argument is mostly paraded around by the lower classes in the western societies, they worship the iphones for this, as they want to look rich.
Similarly the other groups are who are worshipping it as a token item of richness are the thirdies and middle eastern places like qatar or the emirates as they want to show off or look richer than they are.
If there is a disticntion, it is imbeciles are running around iPhones usually more frequently as the celebrities and clout have bigger influence on them. "JUST LIKE MY FAVOURITE CELEBRITY"
A lot of retards running around with droids as well, but less tech illiterate people use them because ghose people see restrictions of iOS and the low price to value ratio more insulting.
High end android phones are in the same price bracket as apple ones at least for a decade or more at this point, so the whole riches vs poors are more of an assumption by low class tards and thirdies.

Apple is valued more because its centralized software is better crafted and more secure than android which has to accomodate all kinds of customizability. Android is simply less stable, which is both to its credit in that you can do more with it and to its detriment in that it breaks down more easily and can't be as secure. Most people don't need to deal with that and instead opt for a sure thing that already does everything they need and more. Apple is simply higher quality than android because it can be but for some reason this fact triggers a lot of androidtroons.

I thought about that too but if you want a small piece of shit Windows handheld (which I did but it's too shit) then I recommend something like a mini laptop instead because those just work better. I have a GPD Pocket 3, it's cute and plays the games I need it to play. You can look up videos of the games it's capable of playing (for some "higher end" ones like Fallout 4 the pc fan is louder than the game lol) but it did an admirable job of playing Hajimari no Kiseki scaled down to basically Switch resolution, which was basically my test for how much it can do out of what I want from it. Those "higher end" games will drain battery relatively quick (only about 2 hours for Haji) but it surprisingly didn't heat it up to high hell since it wasn't plugged in. Anything in the lower range like Thief Gold works great. It has a touch screen too so you could conceivably rotate it to portrait and play DS like that.

Yeah, RP4P was a huge upgrade, I literally don't know how they could top it unless they put something like snap 8 gen 2 in it, which is just ridiculous unless it's gonna cost $300. Afaik D1100 is about as good as it gets in budget devices.
I just got my RP4P on Monday, wasn't sure at first but GC runs so smoothly on it, 1.5x res with 4x AA, and the device barely heats at all. This is pretty much all I need so far. I'd only care if RP5 had Switch, but this is a tall order because of both hardware AND software. Pretty sure PS3/X360 etc will be out of reach too, so why bother? We're at a point where shit like this is barely even there on Android. If it's just 10-20% spec bump, I'll just pass.
And to be honest, I dislike the buttons of RP5 already.

That's a trick question because the options that come entirely preconfigured, Linux after installing a community firmware on the SD card, will give you nothing but headaches. You're supposed to find a decent Android and then set it up yourself, but that's a tall order for some.

Requires a 3rd party OS called CrossMix, needs the performance mode to be switched off (otherwise it wastes battery and heats up the device), and the CPU frequency files (for several emulator profiles) need to be tuned down (they are set way too high for some of the older emulators, again high heat and power drain). The RetroArch version which comes with it is missing some bios and cores, need to download/add them to their respective folders.
Also, several Portmaster games aren't yet fully compatible with it, since the device is relatively new, and only recently got added to the supported devices list.

I put it on medium performance mode, the fan runs very quietly, you can't even hear it unless your room is absolutely silent. And I'm the kind of guy who hates loud fans. If you ABSOLUTELY hate fans, lower performance mode lets you turn it off completely, though GC runs worse as result. I don't even know why they force you to turn on the fan anyway, anything under 50 degrees is super low for a CPU

Also, don't use cable connect. TSP is somewhat temperamental when it comes to SD card corruption, and using cable connect increases that risk.
Get a half-decent SD card reader (Baseus or UGreen) and wait for a couple minutes after fully shutting down the device, before extracting the card.

True, but I don't think anybody created a halfway-comprehensive one, and I'm too lazy.
Regarding the cpufreq.sh/performance.sh files, you can search for "tsp-optimization" on github. That's where I got my info. Worth noting, though, that some launch.sh scripts don't mention the cpufreq/performance files. According to another anon in an older thread, those need to be called in the launch script to take effect. So I had to manually edit the launch scripts to add a call for said file(s), where present (some emulator launch script folders don't even have them in the first place).

The way I see it, if the chinks were smart. They'd sit on the 4P for a few years. Look at the people porting gta3 to Dreamcast, tomb raider to GBA, N64 on PSP, psx on MiSter, etc... Given a little time and ingenuity, they can refine the software to get better performance from the hardware and only slightly tweaking the existing hardware and selling those until newer gen cards and components cause existing ones to go down in price. Then the RP5 can be way more powerful and it will feel justified to buy.

Never had an issue playing old shit on it and when you're immersed enough in the game you'll realize that muh black bars is just normalgroid cope, plus the wider form is more comfortable to hold imo. My suggestion would be to get a sub-$100 device for 4:3 if you really need it to fill the screen since most 4:3 games like PS1 and under will run just fine on the RK3566 devices plus those have more varied and arguably more interesting builds like the Arc.

>get back to me when the trimui smart pro turbo super extreme is out
They could try to build on TSP's reasonable success and go for a mid-end device, but there are a couple obstacles.
TrimUI is owned by Powkiddy, who already tried their hand at some higher-powered devices. However, either nobody bought them (RGB10 Max 3 Pro), or weren't as good as the competition (X28). So Powkiddy might be reluctant to allow another go at that segment. Especially if it might cannibalize buyers away from its own lines.
Also, in order to maintain the good emulator reputation they acquired with TSP, TrimUI would have to go for a hexa-core which *doesn't* use the same tired old Mali-G52 GPU. TSP's main advantage over its direct competitors is the PowerVR 8300, which has better emulator interfacing compared to Mali GPUs. All hexa-cores using either PowerVR or Adreno GPUs are more expensive than Mali-based ones.

At least that's what would make sense, not sure whether they will actually do it.

thats true, but the soc price on this level is always a thing of negotiation. the price of a singular chip wont be the msrp if you order thousands.
Eliminating the other vendors from the line-up and going qualcomm only means they can negotiate for lower prices as their order volume will be higher, they could even use this as a bargaining chip that if qc gives them an even fairer price they will discontinue their mediatek and allwinner devices (which might have nbeen in the plan anyways but the sales rep you are dealing with don't have to know of course)

Correct me if I am wrong, but, as I understand, the MMP can't do hardware-accelerated 3D emulation, since it lacks a 3D GPU core. So anything 5th gen (home console) would struggle on it (due to having to run in software mode).
