I have a load of them and they absolutely are. That’s not to say they’re bad (except the PS1 which sucked unless you hack it) they’re just expensive novelties but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. If you can get a nes/snes and jailbreak it then the functionality goes through the roof, but a Wii will do the same job. What’s cute is, if I remember correctly, the guys who hacked the nes found a text file saying something like, “please don’t hack this but if you do? Have fun” heavily implying the programmers knew rightly what would happen even if the Nintendo suits didn’t.

>> No.11183807

There's something nice about having your the device that plays your Nintendo or Sony or Genesis games being shaped like the actual console, having themed menus and the proper controller. It's not a meme, it's a novelty and that isn't always a bad thing. If all you want is the most efficient way to play games, by all means pick up an android box and any ol controller.

You’re even worse. You could only be a bigger faggot if you samefagged.

They’re just novelty toys you joyless faggots. The fact you can use the controllers on wiimotes/as usb controllers for emulators is as much evidence of knowing winks to coomsumers as much as it is using cheapest connections available to skim even more money. I’m as cynical as the next man but sometimes you can just relax a little, it’s not like you were locked out of games or some shit. Not at all. The fit and finish on them is excellent. They are a good 1st party product and they really look like mini versions of those old consoles. Normal people love them and as such, these mini consoles become great conversation starters. They are perfect to have hooked up to a modern TV in a guest bedroom or a den or something for when friends and family visit or for some reason you have kids in your house and need something to occupy their attention. Nintendo actually published each official manual for every game on their minis as PDFs and put them online so you can print them off and actually use the manual as you play the games too (which as we all know, the manual was important for those old games). You can even add more games to them if you really wanted to. Of course you can find a cheaper way to emulate old games by doing it yourself, yet that's the case for basically everything else in life. Plus, you're not going to get a cute little mini console if you do it that way. In my area they are commonly priced at $70 or so, which could certainly be a lot worse. I realize that only a tiny percentage of this board can actually relate to living in a house, having friends and family visit or are ever near children, so most of you would probably never think of any of that ever.

nah I have one of each of the NES/SNES/mini Megadrive and PSX Classic. I remember seeing consoles like that at the mall all the time 20 years ago, basically you're lucky if they last a year before completely breaking down. I want to believe things are better now since the Anbernic I got on AliExpress has been excellent so far (especially after I modded it), but if you're talking strictly about NES clones I doubt it. You can still find third world "brick game" handhelds at flea markets whose design hasn't changed in 30 years, so I wouldn't be surprised if newly built hardware made from the same guts as picrelated is still being peddled somewhere.

At this point, the only two mini consoles that they can produce are the NES and SNES classics, and both systems use the same basic chipsets but have different sizes in flash storage. The only company that even attempted a fifth generation mini console was Sony with the Playstation Classic. The Playstation Classic was almost 'there' too. But it was still botched in the emulation and miss-match of Pal and NTSC ROM's. I still have my Playstation classic on display, as I do like the look of it. Also, It gives me ownership of Metal Gear Solid, Ridge Racer Type 4, FFVII, and a few other solid titles. I think the N64 classic might be out of Nintendo's grasp. The Sega Saturn mini is still too expensive for Sega to produce. There is a limit to how far these can be produced at the moment.

I feel like if Nintendo decided to release new versions of the NES and SNES mini, they should add a wifi connection and the ability to download additional games that were purchased from the NSO . If Sony took another stab at a mini console (doubtful after how bad they were burned with the PS Classic) , they could just add PSN support so additional PS1 games could be added from your PSN account.
