Unironically Toy Story. Deceptively challenging but really fun to master. Cool graphics and music too. There's something about the platformers that came out on Genesis that were just way better than everything on SNES.

Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja

Makes me feel like an absolute beast, love the running mechanic and slashing random ninjas in the first level (can barely make it past level three desu)

Revenge Of Shinobi is great too, especially for introduction screen and the music

TECMO World Cup '92 is as "badass" as a sports video game, especially a soccer one, can get:

It's incredible, I love it. It's quite basic, only uses 2 of the 3 main Genesis buttons, but it works well.

i own a ton of genesis games and i'll go over the ones people don't talk about, happy to see that zero tolerance has been posted a few times too
1.crack down, arcade port, plant bombs, sneak around shoot dudes, top-down; short game but enough fun if you're emulating the price it commands isn't worth it though for what it is.
2.rolling thunder 3, this shits so fuckin good
3.growl, it may have just a bunch of enemy reskins but it's a neat punch'n'munch that wants you to use weapons and not just beat up people

Wonder Boy in Monster World fucking rocks.
Played it recently for the first time and I got pretty engrossed in it.
2D side scrolling action RPG that's definitely more on the simple side but it's really fun.
There's also a sequel that I believe never came out over here but got translated.
If you're interested in Sega CD games as well there's Popful Mail which is a very similar type of game.

I played through Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III recently, and they are awesome and badass Genesis/Mega Drive games.
Revenge is more difficult, but Shinobi III is also quite challenging at points. Both have really fun levels and boss fights, especially the original release of Revenge where Sega included Terminator, Rambo, Godzilla, Batman and Spider-Man as unlicensed baddies.

Nice. I 1 credit cleared Revenge not too long ago. I feel Shinobi III is much harder. I have not been able to clear that one, but if I am playing Revenge I can pretty much always 1 credit clear it (The one jump on the bay area is the hardest part)

On the stage before the Terminator/Hulk you can just keep getting lives from the hidden 1-up. I don't think Revenge is very hard at all. If you are patient you can clear it very quickly.

That's some nice work. I found the game quite difficult, although I can see how once you get familiar with it it can be a breeze. You didn't find it hard the first time at least?
Either way, really cool game, great soundtrack and graphics. The graphics were superseded by later games obviously, but for a launch title it must have looked amazing.

I love this one, all of the SEGA versions were so good actually, Virgin did a good job on the main SEGA CD and also the Genesis version, but even the 8-Bit ones on Master System and Game Gear do it justice and are fun to play in their own way. I'll be honest, the one I play the most is the one on Genesis, despite loving the OST and depth on the SEGA CD one, but Genesis is more fun to me.

As long as you're not playing the NES version, or the absolutely horrible SNES one, you should be fine, can't go wrong with any of the ones made by Virgin, but Mindscape? No, just stay far away.

I remember thinking the Terraonion MegaSD (?) cart that has an FPGA for the Mega CD was expensive, and a friend told me it's much better value than trying to find a working Sega CD. He was absolutely right. It's an option for you, if you don't want to blow big money on the real hardware at least.
On the topic; from the games I've played on Sega CD, Shining Force CD was my fave.
