Im not quite a zoomer but I didn't grow up with 16 bit consoles at all. I've been beating all the classic games that are considered the most popular and I just have to say I definitely think games on the Genesis just hold up so much better than Nintendo. It seems like Genesis games cared way more about how good the gameplay was and overall Genesis games just have this crispness to them. Meanwhile snes games just feel kind of sloppy, even though they have much better presentation and graphics, it seems a lot of games on Snes care more about graphics than gameplay.

Personally I grew up with both and still like them both. And, if you like Genesis, check out SEGA CD and 32X. They're basically Genesis on steroids

On snes I've beaten Mario world, lttp, MegaMan x, Kirby superstar , Castlevania 4 , and dipped my toes in a bunch of other random genres and games

On Genesis I beat Revenge of Shinobi, sonic 1 , Castlevania bloodlines, gunstar heros, streets of rage 1 , and beyond oasis (probably the best game out of all I beat).

Overall yeah Genesis for whatever reason just has better action and platformers. I think I've finally come to the conclusion that I will hate jrpgs with a passion no matter what so maybe if you're a weeb the snes is a better console

I grew up with neither SNES nor MD too since I had an Amiga instead.

I generally prefer MD over SNES too (except that I don't care about Sonic) but maybe that's because MD feels a bit closer to Amiga and is more nostalgic.
NES beats both of them desu.

I'm a big Super Nintendo fan boy but there's some real gems on Genesis that I've never found another game that compares to them gameplay-wise on snes. A few of my favorites on Genesis are: Haunting, Toejam & Earl and Subterraria. I can't think of a game like any of these on the snes.

Some people also really like Tempo and Kolibri. There's also Virtua Fighter and a near perfect arcade port of Space Harrier similar to the After Burner one

Check out Hagane, Donkey Kong Country series, Final Fight 2, maybe Secret of Mana or Secret of Evermore for SNES. DKC and Mega Man X are probably closer to Sonic than Super Mario World if you are looking for something similar. Capcom also made several Disney games on it, not quite the same as SEGA's Castle/World of Illusion, QuackShot, and Aladdin Genesis, but they have their own charm to them.

If you like Streets of Rage, check out Streets of Rage 2 and Final Fight CD. Shinobi III is also a lot of fun, I didn't play it until recently. If you like the Arabic/Middle Eastern style of Beyond Oasis, there's also Aladdin and Monster World IV.

I wouldn't be so quick to throw out the SNES honestly, if you like Genesis, it is basically the closest thing aside from CD and 32X. Also check out the TurboGrafx-16 at some point if you can, maybe start with Neutopia, Dungeon Explorer II, or Ys I and II if you like Beyond Oasis.

Based and correct. The main thing to remember is that the SNES is essentially a meme console. The only reason anyone claims to "love it" is because the top 10 games on the console are very popular and widely regarded as some of the "best games of all time". Once you stray from that short list of top games, though, there's really nothing else worth playing. The SNES rides it's status as being "one of the best consoles ever" amongst millennial and gen X gamers solely from those dozen or so games and nothing more, really it is no different from the N64 or GameCube which also are carried solely from a dozen popular titles. The Mega Drive has a smaller library overall, but FAR more depth, and several times more great games to discover. I would also advise looking into the PC Engine, X68000, and Neo Geo, as they also offer libraries with lots of depth, and that snappy, gameplay oriented design that you appreciate, and which really defines why the 16-bit era was so great.

A console needs far more than a dozen noteworthy games to be truly great. The SNES falls massively flat in this regard. It's the N64 of the 16-bit era, with equally annoying and deluded fans to boot.

Castlevania is pretty good, I've heard good things about Ganbare Goemon, there's really solid shmups on both sides , and Final Fight is good albeit CD is superior, but that obviously wasn't out during the Genesis' first year

because most of these are genesis games ported to snes
the other way around is not common

then you have a lot of genesis vs pc engine ports where its 50/50 split in quality as theyre all different devs

HOLY BASED. I beat Beyond Oasis a few months ago and was let down by it. The graphics and music were great, but enemies are a bit tanky and jumping onto little moving platforms was annoying. Revenge of the Shinobi was one hell of a game. Every new level I'd game over because it was something new. Needing to time the double jump on falling logs at the water fall, the amount of enemies at the air base, knowing best when to go in for the attack against the brain. The freeway section with the cars ramming into you. Beating that damn Spiderman guy, and the entire final level, outside and the inside maze.
