What is the single most epic fight in retro gaming history?

>pic related

You can't beat that.

>Dem powerful special moves
>Exploding you in space out of fucking nowhere

Despite being easy as dirt to beat she will always hold a special place in my heart.

It's like the Battle of Midway for me.

I just love that they built him up as well as they did early in the game, not even touching on the fight itself, rather than taking the usual jrpg route of having him just kinda loom over other villains the whole time. The fact that he basically chased you around the map for the first couple of chapters burning towns down behind you all the way, along with the typical looming, and of course his cutscenes just made it all the more meaningful when you realize for the first time that it's actually going to take you all of your backup teams to whittle him down, and then it just feels so right when you've got him down to a one-on-one duel.

Totally agree. Is it even possible to defeat his unit in the army fights?

>> No.1107421

Must ponder on this.

So many many epic battles have been fought.

No, but I think you can deplete his max HP for that particular round and it'll just let you proceed to your next party. So technically you can go the whole fight without losing anyone.

Der Langrisser, independent path
After destroying the Empire and killing just about every major character in the game, you and your handful of loyal goons storm heaven itself and slay the goddess of light

I mean, the strategic map-battles, not the insane 6 v 1 fights.

What is the name of this game? I think I've seen it posted before and it looks neat.

Suikoden II. It's the GOAT non-square RPG on PS 1. Only play it after you've beaten the first one, though.

It may not have been very challenging, but if there is any retro boss that could be called epic in the realest sense of the word, it's Ocarina of Time's finale. The final showdown between good and evil, that crushing atmosphere, knocking the master sword away from you, Zelda shrieking in the background when you get hit, everything about that fight and leading up to it was just perfect.

It's gotta be this one. Especially when you look at how lighthearted and enthusiastic most parts of the game are.

The deus ex machina style kill was kind of a bummer for me, but it did contrast well with the atmosphere of the game.

The stairwell, the music, the piano. The battle, the escape, the final confrontation. It was like an hour long the first time you play through it, if you're immersed and focused.
