The Gamecube laser doesn't even travel far enough for the trimmed-off portions to be an issue. All that matters is the inner 1.46 gigabytes. When you burn a Gamecube game to a DVD, you are only burning the inner 1.46 gigabytes of the disc (you can see the burn on this disc; the outer 4cm is totally untouched). As long as the inner 8cm are intact, then there will be no issue.

No, it has taken over 20 years because nobody is interested in the Xbox. It was the original dudebro console, while both PS2 and Gamecube have hordes of autists working on buggy shitty emulators, Xbox has fucking nothing.

I've tried both the emulators, they're absolute garbage. Wow, some games are kind of playable! It's in the same kind of state as most other emulators were a decade ago. I would honestly say that the buggy Namco 256 support in Play! is more mature than fucking Xbox emulation, which is absolutely horrendous to think about.

Personally I only care about Xbox because of one fucking arcade title that was built on the atrocious Chihiro system, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't give a shit. Only game of any note on the actual console was Steel Battalion, which is known for... being expensive. The actual game is mediocre, and the controller is cheaply made and feels like shit. I felt ripped off after paying 30 bucks for it.

Tony Hawk is more similar to Street Fighter than JSR, because Tony Hawk is all about combos and autistic inputs. It's Mario 64 with the controls of a fighting game. JSR meanwhile is very much not a score attack game. The original JSR is basically Resident Evil because you have to find the tag spots and map out a route through them that minimises contact with enemies. JSRF similarly is not a score attack game by any means, and the way it's been streamlined over the original just makes it a very safe collectathon, it's more like Banjo than Mario 64. Either way, Tony Hawk and JSR are infinitely more comparable to other games than each other.

Comparing the action inputs in THPS to the action inputs in SF is equivocal at best. Skaters have stat progression as they accumulate cash/do big tricks whereas SF does not change how each character controls despite how many points a player accumulates. Don't even mention the special meters in THPS because your top speed at both zero and full stats will have different traveling speeds with a full special respectively. As for JSR, the game is not shy bout grading you on how quickly you accomplish stages, how many things you tag, and how much paint you have left over. While you may not have direct control over the tricks you perform, you absolutely do get points for them as well. JSR may not incentivise score attack gameplay like Nights but it absolutely is a component of the game just like any other game that keeps score like, for example, THPS. The only difference between THPS and JSR is the fact JSR doesn't demand gold medal gameplay from every playable character before you've "beaten" it. I'll admit, THPS is much harder than JSR in that respect. They both can be played as score attack games though.

A laser burns discs, but it does not read them. In fact, you need a special device, basically a needle with a diamond tip, that can ride on the disc and read the pits and lands. This phonograph-like device then converts the sounds into a series of ones and zeros, and this is converted into more common forms of data on your computer.

>> No.11033032

close, but the pits and lands are not ones and zeroes in and of themselves, but PWN modulated information. there's also the assembly to move the stylus around which involves worm gears, so called because they stretch and retract. these wear out over time faster if you use bootleg discs because the discs taste diffrent

Why the fuck are you idiots still burning disks for GameCube in 2024 anyway?

We have all already established that you would still need to install a modchip anyway to use a burned disk regardless if you use a Mini-DVD, trim a DVD with scissors, or remove/mod the cover to accept full-sized disks.

Any modchip would be just as complex if not more complex to install than the two dozen or so ODE options for the GameCube. Seriously, the GameCube for some reason has more ODE devices than the Wii had shovelware. You can fucking MAKE one out of a $4 Raspberry Pi Pico and soldering just five wires. It would cost you less than a stack of burnable disks. And if you for some reason can't handle a simple soldering job like that there are no-solder ODEs too that cost about as much as a stack of mini DVD-Rs.

Or you could just use a damn Wii. It natively runs GameCube games, not emulates them, accepts full-sized disks, has all four GC controller ports and two memorycard ports, doesn't need an expensive bullshit cable for composite out, can be hacked for free 100% in software, and would STILL give you USB loading options on top of being able to use physical media. Not to mention of course, also plays Wii games.

Only reason I can think of to use a GC is for the GBA player, but while it's not hard to find the adapter the official software for it both sucks and is expensive to find. Thankfully there is a homebrew replacement that is a lot better, but you just need ANY method to load homebrew for that (there are several game exploits to load it off a memory or SD card), you don't need to burn a disk.

As you said before, those systems would be as functional with a modern windows computer as they would be with a win98 PC, so of course the solution to this problem is to raise standards and add more complexity so the system can't be maintained independently. That works great for businesses but I doubt that approach is beneficial for the private sector which I'd argue is the point

You are right. It is neat and interesting and core functionality has been there since the late 70s and common place in the late 90s. Industrial and Commercial systems have been on service contracts since forever. They ask to squeeze more efficiency and data driven decisions every year. So arguing against SAS contracts is pointless, that has been a thing forever. Frankly the new controllers are far less complex for the HVAC tech and engineer. You buy a universal box it has all the legacy connectivity options protocols, and plug it into an ethernet port or jam a SIM card and it automagically SSL tunnels to your management environment with minimal fuss. The old way, you had to worry about compatibility matrixes, serial to IP bridges, configuring SNMP (does it support v2 or v3), configuring telenet some of the products support SSH. Yeah, there is no going back.

It is not the same as consumer products, not even close, consumer products are not about efficiency, you are squeezing a nickel at that point anyway, they are about selling the UI.
