Are these the perfect emulation boxes?

>cheaper than a Pi and readily available second hand
>small with decent design
>powerful enough to emulate up to PS2 and Xbox
>integrated VGA out to easily hook up a CRT TV over RGB SCART for 240p/480i
>built in WiFi and Bluetooth for clean setup and wide variety of wireless controllers
>extremely quiet and low power

Just throw on RetroArch and done.

It really depends how far you want to extend into the present, and how hard you want to force maybe a small number of old arcade ROMS that inexplicably need a lot of CPU. If all you care about are 2d consoles, any cheap computer from the last 2 decades will do the job. If you want PS2 and Gamecube, you might be pushing it a bit.

I've noticed them a lot on local sales sites for under 100€, with even good configurations like i5/i7 CPUs and 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD.

>and it probably came with one of those space wasting laptop style power brick.
Yeah, power brick, same ones some HP laptops also use. Hides well though and keeps the computer itself small, which I like mostly, fits well into a AV shelf.

>Also no HDMI, weird.
It's modular, you can have a third vide out port where the cutout is, either DP, VGA or HDMI.

What's a good PC that can play arcade games up into the 2000s like NFL blitz and MvC2? I'm building an arcade cabinet and want something small enough to fit easily in there, but no clue what specs are actually needed for MAME emulation. I already have a PC and chinkheld for emulating consoles like PS3 so I don't care if it can't run consoles.

I was thinking of getting one of these mini PC things on Amazon or is that overkill?

I think they are. I've been using old thin clients for emulation since the used ones can be affordable. However, they are still much larger than those single board computing solutions like the DE10, so they may not fit into other's lifestyles as well. I do like to tinker with the thin clients since they do have some nice expandability options that can enhance the experience. I have been stuck far back in generations of them, but it does look like the one you have there has significantly more power than the ones I've been using and while they are not "cheaper than a Pi", they're on the edge of being within my budget. Thanks for the recommendation and I'll keep an eye open if one does drop in price for me to get.

Very nice. While the thin clients has cut down chips for cooling purposes, they still had a processor with integrated graphics, an AMD processor but a processor nonetheless that can do some good emulation. The 800 G2 there has a great small form factor and maybe enough processing for those more complicated robust emulation solutions I couldn't get with these older ones. Looks like used ones here go for around $100USD at this time, so it is pricey but likely worth it.

>>11026347
In the USA, I think after the pandemic the prices of a singular Raspberry Pi is $80USD. So they are no longer affordable. I have seen some Chinese bootleg at my local computing store sell Orange Pi cards, but there's no telling what kind of data it transmits and it may not be compatible with things people have made for the real thing. At this time 80EUR converts to 86USD, so they are pretty comparable to US prices, but know that here tax is calculated separate and afterwards, unlike VAT, so tack on another 10% to get closer to the ballpark of a US price.

BEHOLD.

I know it might look and sound dumb, but hear me out, higher end tablets are essentially PCs nowadays, just with a simpler OS, that can still run emulators just fine, you get your emulation box that can be either a handheld, with any 3rd party telescopic controller on the market that fits tablets, and then you plug it into a monitor to have it as a PC, or the TV to use as a console.

Yep. Use a good VGA to component transcoder and it'll work. Retroarch makes it very easy to add a blank scanline filter for every emulator, you should also run 2560x480 and superwide to correct for systems like Genesis which switch between 256 and 320 width resolutions all the time.

Even newer ones have VGA, like HP G4, but the price is also several times higher, meanwhile even a G2 with a i7 or good i5 is more than enough for almost all /vr/ outside of some rare exceptions. But you don't even need native VGA out, a DP to VGA adapter will work just as well as the onboard VGA out. Newer models might also not support interlaced modes or require specific driver versions for interlaced to work, not an issue if you only want progressive modes like 240p though.
