Two rules:
>we don't judge fighting games for being unbalanced, unless they are totally unplayable
>we don't judge fighting games for having no tourney scene or not being played on fightcade
As long as the game is fun, it belongs here. So, what are you playing? Who are you maining? What's your top 3 in the genre? What fighting game is your guilty pleasure?

KoF is my eternal fave, I love them all up to 11 but could never pick a fave between 98 and 02. I like to play just about everyone, but my go to when I want to pull out a win is Iori, Athena, Kim.

Second favorite would be Mortal Kombat 2, which really doesn't hold up well but still has a special place in my heart because of how obsessed with it I was and it got me to truly love the genre.

After that it's hard as there are a ton I love so picking just one is hard. There's a lot I like about SF3, but similarly with Darkstalkers, Samshow and big shout out to Budokan which still delights me in it's weirdness. But to chose just one more I'd give it to Last Blade 2.

Guilty pleasures if you could call them that aren't retro, MK9 and Injustice the later of which I was super deep into at the time. The guiltiest of pleasures being blaring the Wonder Woman theme over the mic while moping the floor with people.

Don't know what the #3 would be. Sometimes it's 3rd Strike, sometimes it's Tekken 3.

More people should be aware of Asuka 120% and Variable Geo. Arcana Heart is good, too, but the best one isn’t retro. Though, the newest game still uses sprites from the first game, so it’s almost like an updated rerelease. Like GGXXAC+R isn’t technically retro, but it doesn’t use modern assets.

SNK vs Capcom isn't just good for the hardware, it's good, period. It plays surprisingly well with the clicky stick. I'm far from an expert at the genre, and I have no issues at all pulling off the moves. Having only 2 buttons sounds bad on paper, but in practice it works fine since the game is designed around it. Tap for light hits, press for hard, and the game is forgiving about the difference when you're doing combos. One downside; unlocking all of the characters and moves on just one copy was an enormous chore, doing so on both of my copies made me want to kill myself. On the plus side though, I mastered Jubei's minigame by playing it so much, pic related.

This game, and the Jubei minigame in particular, made me realize what a big deal input lag can be, even if you don't feel it. The Switch port of SNK vs Capcom seems to feel fine, yet I cannot pull this off there no matter how hard I try. I can only do this on real hardware.

I didn't get mine until late 2002 or early 2003, but yeah, I was thrilled with SvC, Sonic, and the Metal Slug games. The other fighting games were cool too, but SvC practically makes them obsolete. The obvious downside to fighting games on NGPC is that 2 player is tough to do, so you'll likely just be playing them solo. I managed to do 2 player SvC just once, but it was damned cool. I'm still on the lookout for a second NGPC and link cable just to play SvC Match of the Millenium two player; it's that good. It absolutely mogs SvC Chaos.

VF4 Evolution has the best single player content I've ever seen in a fighting game. And on top of that, it's just one of the best fighting games purely from a gameplay perspective. It's deep, it's fair, and it's as well balanced as fighting games get. There are no comeback mechanics, no cutscene-supers, there's not even a super meter. It's pure fighting. I really wish more people cared about the series. Unfortunately, most players seem to prioritize style over substance, and VF is definitely substance over style.

Anyone else play SF3 on fightcade? I recently got into the FGC in my late 30s after play SF2 as a kid in arcades. I'm playing on keyboard but I wanted to know if a stick would better suit this game?

People now glaze leverless controllers as the de facto best way to play FGs, but a keyboard is essentially the same. Still, for old FGs likes 3rd Strike a stick might be better if you have the money but unless you're itching for it, you can stick with the KB no problem.

Apologize for the chinese video, but this guy glued pointy thumbstacks to his keyboard and played KoF2002 doing fancy combos just to prove that you can play well enough and with enough precision to not hurt yourself.
I remember way back when SF2 for PC came out and everyone I knew was talking about how much of a gamepad was must have to play it "nobody can do spinning pile drivers on keyboard or do them well enough for a match" and for many years it was considered a bad input device.
I'm not familiar with the worldwide/overall Fighting Game consensus but at least that's what I kept hearing. Nowadays hitboxes are all the rage and pros prefer them to get impossible stuff performed.

I think there was an argument for learning how to play on Pad if you were going to play SNES versions on someone elses houses, or learning how to play stick if you were going to the arcades, but nowadays you can play whatever you want.

Does anyone know of a cheat code for the CPS2 version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo which will allow both players to select a new character after every match? It gets so tiresome pressing f2 to go to the service menu and rest the game.

I could use a save state at the character select screen but that also requires reaching over to the keyboard and pressing a button or mapping a button combo to my arcade stick. It would be nice to not have to do anything at all when playing sessions with people and have it work seamlessly like the console version.

I'm kind of surprised fightcade doesn't have some kind of hacked rom that enables a console-like experience.

SvC is great as others have said.
The other game of note is SNK Gals Fighters, a cute game with a bunch of SNK waifus being silly. It a lot better than the more recent SNK Heroines.
Those two are the only fighting games that are unique to the system. The other games are all essentially ports of actual Neo Geo games and generally don't offer anything new although they're still good and worth playing if you like the way they look.
Fatal Fury First Contact does have an odd unique thing though. It's a port of Real Bout 2 but it actually has an exclusive character, the guy who gets beat up by Rick and Xiangfei in the RB2 intro. But for some reason he's only accessible in 2 player mode. I don't even know if there are any NGP emulators that can do that.
