The first gamecenter I saw and finished watching was Takeshi's Challenge

It was basically 2 hours of this music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX9hUzTHRpw

It's pretty catchy, even though it's the same tune again and again. I still liked it.

The Unknown World from Dragon Warrior Monsters 2. It plays in the Ice World, one of my favorite video game songs of all time.
It gives an impossible sense of desolation and how alone you are in a vast, empty world.

Damn, you know, as much as I like some of the other tracks in this game, as cliche and over-rated as it is now, I still LOVE the Corneria theme. like, holy hell. it just gets me in a gaming mood. i could play that music to like, anything. I could fucking drive to that music.

Is it cliche and overrated? I adore Star Fox's soundtrack, Corneria along with it. One of my all time favorite soundtracks.

>> No.1099817

well, Corneria just gets A LOT of attention. I've heard it used in a lot of youtube videos about video games (even when it has nothing to do with star fox). it's a fucking cool song though, so, it doesn't matter. regardless of it's popularity, it's a damn great song.

i don't particularly like the addition of lyrics, however, me and some friends cover /vr/ songs when we're bored.

we've done the FF7 boss theme, mega man 2 intro, dr wily's theme (from 2 as well) and quite a few others.

I was over at my buddy's house the other day and he was playing a genesis emulator to pass the time. He loves gauntlet and I saw him fire up the Genesis version. I was expecting the same old gauntlet theme, which was an ok song, but I got so much more. Now I'm scrambling to hunt this game down. Apparently the genesis version is rather obscure, but GOD that soundtrack...

Not exactly what I'd call retro, but - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEi_yNAre2I

It's funny though, it makes me pretty nostalgic now, but I used to hate it back in the day, especially if the only car I could get was that pickup that played nothing else.

Sorry about that. I'm not much of an RPG gamer, unfortunately. But I'll have to listen to that soundtrack sometime. I also forgot to add Chrono Trigger to that list, which I know has an AWESOME soundtrack, but I totally blanked on it when I made the list. I fail. :(

Doesnt anyone else get tired of these threads

No one who is on this board is capable of judging a game's musical quality on it's own merits.

I can't even do that.

Everyone just spams the music they listened to when they were 12 years old, somehow mistaking the impression in their brain for 'quality.'

Furthermore, not everyone listens to music for the same reasons. I stopped being interested in soft atmospheric music in my 20s, now I only like powerful aggressive music, so that's another layer of subjectivity.

And then on top of that, there's those who genuinely can't tell that a song they like is terrible. We've all been guilty of this at some point or another.

Here's how you fix this crap. Don't post a song unless you know some things about it, and can compare it to other music in some way, and can teach us things.

>> No.1102253

I found it hard to care about legend of mana. There's a reason why it wasn't particularly noteworthy at the time, it was unfinished and had even less gameplay than a typical mana game. Just colorful environments and a few good songs.

I've said this before, PS1 was when they stopped finishing rpgs, and the biggest and most prominent unfinished rpg was ff7. There has never been a finished one since SNES.

"to the sea" was the only legend song I like, the one with the penguins
