>test it on street fighter
>can pull off combos easily and consistently compared to a x360/ps3 controller
>borderlike feels like im cheating using it
saturnbros... you were right. this gotta be the best fighting game controller i've ever seen. if only it had a select button. oh, and since thats just a cheap giveaway licensed version, i wonder how good a SLS would be

you should have bought a real saturn controller and a raphnet usb adapter instead.

I don't understand why everone's so into the Saturn dpad.
The reverse dpad on 3-button Genesis controllers is way better.

See if you can get Saturn running on your PC. This is unironically how I got into Saturn emulation (albeit I got the Retro-Bit one)

Idk about the d-pad but I do prefer the 3-button and SEGA CD stuff in general

Saturn pad is pretty the same as the Genesis 6-button afaik, meanwhile the Genesis 3-button or at least most variants of it have a reverse dpad.
Reverse in that it's literally on the wrong side of the PCB. I don't know if it's a patent issue or what since the wireless 3-button by the same manufacturer have just a regular dpad in them as do both official Sega wired and wireless 6-buttons.

And of course I forgot the picture.
Pic related is the rear side. The disc you see here has a shaft that connects it directly to the dpad on the top, so you push left on the dpad pad and it actually hits the button on the right etc.
Also note the grease. If you've ever noticed a bad feeling 3-button pad it might have dried grease in it.

The real Saturn controllers are a little bit better than the retro bit ones. The plastic feels denser and weighs more. The dpad plastic has more texture, the retrobit is smoother. The originals have 90s mouse click switches for shoulder buttons. Retrobit had trouble sourcing those kinds of switches, probably because no one uses switches that feel that way anymore. Because of this, they decided to continue using switches under the shoulders, just like the Saturn, but instead use the cheapest switches available. As a result, the shoulders feel ridiculous. It's just stupid. It doesn't feel even close to the same, it's completely different. They should have used membranes like a SNES controller instead, since that feels just as similar as what they ended up using. Some people might even have preferred the membranes over the original switches.

The Play Sega ones are of cheaper quality similar to the Chinese repros that were $3USD each, but they work well enough for me too. However, there is a hint more accuracy which I could feel in the SLS editions. If you need a select button, maybe the Playstation ones would be what you're looking for.

I think it is the best 2D/pixel retro game controller you could possibly get. It works absolutely perfect for those types of games. That is why its an amazing fighting game controller. It is one of the better parts of Sega's legacy as a console creator.

it's very comfortable, it has a pivot and it's large in comparison to modern dpads, but gives the right amount of resistance that you can be both economical and precise with your thumb and hand movement
honestly i've been putting more time on mine lately because old fighting games and anime fighting games can be really brutal on your hands on both stick and leverless. the fact that i can switch devices and play around the same level means it earns my respect, and not just in FGs but other fast paced 2D genres too.

I haven't tried fighting games but for beat em ups and other genres it's not the best pad. I also got memed into buying it an I don't know where to put my fingers, most Genesis/Saturn games dont' use that many buttons so they're just kinda there taking space.

Your reading is mistaken:
>No one who plays fighting games more than very casually uses either a standard MS or PS pad.

Reiterated for clarity (again nta this is my interpretation):
>Owning a fightpad or arcade stick is seen as a token of FGC participation as the community generally prefers them compared to generic console controllers

I'll even agree with you that playing on generic console controllers doesn't make you a bad player, there have been esports fighting game champions that used generic console controllers. That said, if you want to take fighting games seriously then you will have better progress playing on a dedicated controller, there's a reason so many players own them.

Ah, it's marble countertop anon. I hope you're doing well. I will have to post my own shit again sometime too.
I think the PS2 Saturn pads are the best bet for anyone wanting to use an adapter and plug into another system. That select button is nice and the PS2 controller's signal is easily decoded and encoded to other systems. They used to be really expensive but the price wasn't too bad last I checked. Gets more cost effective the more systems with which you use them.

No amount of rephrasing will make your point less wrong. Probably over 1/3 of major entrants deep into bracket play on OEM PS/occasionally MS pads. It is also a very common opinion among top players nowadays that pad > stick, and that hitbox > both.

>>10979063
The only one I got of them is this one which is nice for its wireless capabilities. I've only used it on my MiSTer and I could probably fail a blind test with them, but side by side, while possibly a placebo effect, I think the official ones do feel a lot better in responsiveness and "softness" feel of the d-pad/buttons (may be due to usage). Compared specifically to the Play Sega one, they seem identical.

No analog triggers so it's basically just a good all in one controller for poor people. You can make due without the analog triggers to save cash but I wouldn't really recommend it over just getting the two actual Saturn controllers. The sticks are low profile mobile sticks too so again really only recommend for college kids and poor people

I am interested in the 8bitdo one, but I'd rather have an almost 1:1 version of the Saturn controller. I don't know what's going on with Retro-Bit. They have been out of stock in Amazon for some time, and the prices from third party sellers are already triple of what I paid for it. I liked it and I wanted to get a second one, black and wireless.

I haven't seen the new model with analogs either. It's like it is only being sold in a few countries.

There's not much around here that offers $14USD an hour. Besides, one of the facilities I'm contracted to cleaning had these on the ground and I'm trying to smooze my way in figuring out how I can get to them before they are destroyed. Those remote work jobs seem mythical to me that young people has all the connections for. In all honesty, I'm not sure I can last in this job as I'm very tired after a day and don't get to play any games anymore, so I may leave prior to my probationary year is up.
