I've always had nostalgia for seeing Crash Bandicoot played but the gameplay turns me off instantly, I don't know what it is about the perspective and the interactability of objects I just instantly lose all hope of the game being fun within moments

crash 1 really nailed that ominous, harrowing atmosphere in its dark levels. sound effects were likewise top-notch.
>exhaling sound as your mask goes dark in Lights Out/Fumbling in the Dark
>echoes when you break boxes and spin enemies in Temple Ruins/Jaws of Darkness
>the fire igniting and burning sound
>spears sliding out sound
>bats screeching and flying directly out of your screen
the black background and animations made those bats look so realistic on a CRT

kino doesn't mean anything anymore. utterly ruined by normies who destroy the meaning of any word they use. kino, incel, masterpiece, ratio, epic, biblically accurate, all meaningless now.

they felt that way if you played them as a sheltered 9-year old. Most of the tension came from having to do the level without dying, but the atmosphere also heightened this effect.

It's interesting that Crash 1's known for a moody and dark atmosphere for a platformer, and years after it an IP with a big focus in that, Scooby Doo, got a PS1 title that was essentially a Crash clone, and had none of the atmosphere Crash had, it's a real shame, since corridor platformers are great.
