Crazy that Yoshi's Island (the game) takes place entirely in World 1 of SMW.
Dinosaur Land must be much, much bigger than the map we see makes it seem. That's pretty cool

they never again made a world map that was this fun to explore in any 2D mario game

I get so much joy walking over the bridge east of the ghost house in Donut plains and seeing that little fish jump out of the water, taking the high path on butter bridge through the underwater castle, or seeing that high hill overlooking Valley of bowser. And then the mystery of the forest of illusion. But then you can also PALLETE SWAP ENEMIES AND CHANGE THE SEASONS TO FALL

wonderful game. God bless miyamoto and friends

>Looks like the mushroom kingdom
It doesn't, for one dinosaur land doesn't even have bricks nor regular piranha plants, or regular goombas. It's a different region.
>3 dinosaurs
Not counting Koopas, even though they are dinosauresque, there are:
Rex
Reznor
Blaarg
Dino-rhino/Dino-torch
Eerie
And of course the most famous dino of the game, Yoshi.
I'd say it's not a bad number, if it was only dinosaur enemies it would feel less like a mario game. It still has the same classic feel of the series, with classic enemies with new twist, or new Koopa bros types like charging chucks, sumo bros and Kamek.
The game does have dinosaur but they never overtake the Mario vs Koopa main theme, never overstays the welcome. It's always exciting when dinosaur enemies appear in the game.

Always wondered what the deal was with this thing's name. Was someone on the dev team a Nine Inch Nails fan?

Not that anon, but I don't like that kind of landscape. My main beef with Mario is there literally no kind of logic behind the world. Not that there needs to be any, it just gets my 'tism. Like how does anyone besides Mario travel in that world?

Technically it's all one crescent shaped contiguous piece of land except for Yoshi's Island. Browser's castle is in a sunken cave in the bay.

all of the mushroom kingdom residents have Mario-like abilities
if you're talking about normal humans, probably not, but peach and the toads can also run and jump and take on challenges with ease

If that were the case, why is Mario the hero when anyone could do it? Why is he Super?

One of the things I really hate about the NSMB games is how the over world is now a linear path where you literally just hold right to go from one level to the next. Mario 3 and Mario World had branching paths and hidden areas to look for which added a sense of wonder and nonlinearity to those games that make them still fun to play today.

Yeah, it's the same reason all the Koopalings are named after musicians, too. In Japan they were just Koopaling 1, 2, etc. Miyamoto liked the name changes so much that they adopted the American names as the official ones worldwide.

In Mario 64? The levels are paintings that Bowser magically brought to life, they're not supposed to be sensical or logical worlds where real people live. In 2D Mario games it's just an abstraction for gameplay purposes. Mario Sunshine is the most 'realistic' in terms of level design, everything is designed around the Piantas being able to theoretically live there. The absolute worst is Odyssey where they just lazily copied 64's level design even though they're supposed to be real locations rather than fantasy realms in a magical painting.

>If that were the case, why is Mario the hero when anyone could do it? Why is he Super?
Let's do some critical thinking here: pretty much anyone can be a soldier, but only like less than 10% of the population can actually be one, and of that 10%, how many of them will ever actually do anything heroic?
Probably less than 1% of 1% out of that 10%.
