How are you guys losing this argument? it's really easy. the Xbox and GameCube share 80 percent of their library, and 100 percent of it looks and runs better on Xbox. why would anyone pick up a GameCube at that point.

Yes. Generally the way to keep your Xbox from bricking (aside from of course replacing caps) is:
1. Softmod your Xbox
2. Replace the hard drive immediately
3. Back up your eeprom (and/or wipe your HDD key) so that you can setup a new HDD if yours fails
4. If you get a boot fail from something non HDD related (probably disc drive failure) hard mod and forget about it.

You require a converter and the converter is USB only. Those hyperkin use a different driver/protocol, they're made for Xbox One/PC.
